Coppell: Established manager, with previous success at larger teams. At the time, was considered a fantastic signing and we were tipped for promotion. Left in strange circumstances, probably due to board. Millen: A bit of a write-off, but had to be considered given his experience with the club, and how he handled GJ's departure. Didn't have a lot of money or help from the board, but did make some good signings. He did pretty well with Holloway at Crystal Palace, and they didn't look too bad under him when he took over as caretaker. McInnes: Proven north of the border, and proving himself once again. I think he grossly underestimated the strength of the league, but I also think he wasn't given the help he needed from the board. SOD: Once again, a proven manager, and one proven in similar circumstances to us. He was clearly operating in the red, since over a million went "missing". He wanted to do things the right way, but I think he was doomed to fail. He doesn't seem the type to "walk", but he clearly did. For me, that's at least three managers with proven credentials that ultimately failed due to a lack of help from the board. I couldn't give a **** who the next manager is. For starters, it won't be a manager. Ever since GJ, the club has only ever appointed head coaches, so they clearly want a coach to handle the players. We may get some results just because we've got a new manager, but this guy is likely to fail too. The board are hiring based on their own ideals of football (i.e. the whole five pillars bollocks), so unless you buy into a methodology that is clearly not working you're not going to manage this club. My only wishlist for a new manager is someone with a proven record of discipline and passion. Someone who won't just slate the players, but will slate the board if he's not being given what he was promised. Our managers leave our club looking like jaded figures, and I reckon when they leave they're largely happy to get away from the toxic environment surrounding the club.
Over the course of an entire year/season if he wins more than he loses he will have done a sublime job. Something which his last 3 predecessors could not come even close to managing, and in terms of SOD he lost twice the amount of times he won, which is just ridiculous.
Shiny, he has no record of success to give me any confidence. Cheltenham out of the Conference and taking over a promotion bound team at Notts County, with three months of the season left, is hardly sustained success. I am afraid I have extreme reservations about Cotterill's ability to get us out of relegation this season let alone take us forward in the years to come. If I am proved wrong, I will publicly eat very humble pie. Til then I will support my Club by attending as many games as possible.
Win % Gary Johnson 41.88% Keith Millen 33.33% Dereck Mciness 37.88% Sean Odriscoll 35.54% Steve Cotterill 40.17% That's career win percentages so far so slightly better than most. others Holloway 37.45% Tisdale 37.76% Warnock 40.37% David Moyes 44.23% Mourinho 67+% Not sure we had a chance with last two though I love statistics, doesn't look so bad now.
Well it may be better than playing SoD's so called pretty football, now where did that get us, if he had stayed, two relegations in two seasons, if Cotterills appointed, so be it, give the bloke a shout, it may not be pretty, but if we stay up who gives a s**t.
If you do join us Steve, welcome to the nightmare that has become Bristol City and you might find out that I am one of the biggest moaners on 606 but nonetheless you have my undying support. I just hope the same can be said of our board who have failed dismally in the past of doing due diligence to their job. All we expect from you is to do your job to the best of your ability and find a way to motivate the seeming lacklustre lot that will play for you. Get us back to respectability and you will prosper at Ashton Gate - welcome aboard mate and the best of luck from me on the other side of the Atlantic and all of us here on the dreaded 606.
You great big creeper! Do you expect to get a complimetary ticket for your next day trip to Ashton Gate?
If it's Cotterill, so be it. It's not like any of us actually has any influence over the decision, though he would not be high on my personal list. Interesting to see Dave Jones & Owen Coyle become available over the past day or so, though the rumours suggest the board knew they wanted Cotterill a few days ago so probably too late to consider some of these more experienced (though probably expensive) possibilities. Whether Cotterill or A.N.Other, I just want someone who will (in the short term i.e the next 6 months) - ensure our survival in L1 (a second successive relegation would be a disaster); restore some passion & pride; try to play more positively than SOD seems to have advocated; start talking up OUR team rather than every week saying how good our next opponents are (and get the team tactically playing to win, instead of like against Sheff U when from what I read, it sounded like we were set up to try not to lose); and basically, do something so that we can start to see sustainable improvement on the pitch. I think the majority of us did not expect a quick and easy return to the championship, especially given the financial constraints. I would still be happy to see a lower mid-table finish (which, given our wage bill, should be the minimum the team should achieve) as long as we start seeing more positivity on the field and some degree of sustainable improvement to give cause for optimism for next season.
This bunch of over paid, and under achieving set of players should be top six minimum. They have been a complete and utter joke so far. One thing cotterill will bring is discipline will that be enough time will tell, i am not looking forward to his type of football though.
I have already stated elsewhere that I will support the Manager, whoever he is, providing we start to edge clear of relegation and stop signing has-been players like Harewood that 'do so much behind the scenes' but are next to useless on the pitch. I would have loved a left-field appointment like Gary Neville or a young Manager from Seville or Granada, but whoever we get he has my support of course.
As said Yesterday, It is Steve Cotterill! All we can do now is support him and this club and hope he turns things around!
If he keeps us up then its job done.........we were only heading in one direction with SOD at the helm.
I think he will keep us up. My only concern in the amount of expectation there will be next season on promotion. A bit like the sags have done with Ward. He kept them up and got the mid table last year and they all expected to win promotion this season only to be in and around the relegation zone again. I feel this will happen with us...
Reading all the various forums ect and can't believe some of the comments and thoughts from some City fans. The poor guy is already hung, drawn and quartered and he has'nt even been anounced yet! FFS we are a sh1tty league one team on a downward spiral, loosing millions a season and in a footballing backwater.........we aint gonna get SAF out of retirement or lure Jose to Bristol City. We will only get managers and players of a certain level......and this is it. Lets stop the rot first then take little steps forward, but most of all show the new guy some support. We have no idea what type of football he will play yet so lets not get all ranty and ravey until we see something to rant and rave about.
