It must have changed then. I remember when we loaned Kasey Keller outside the window in about 2004. I fully expect we'll field Gazza in this situation but if he got injured we'd surely be able to ask for special dispensation to bring someone in rather than have to play a kid who's never played a professional game?
I think they tightened the rules when they went to the 25 man squad system. Gazza and Cropper are both registered as senior (although U21) so the Prem would expect us to use them.
Are they? Neither of them is on the Saints squad list on the Premier League website. They're both down as U21 players. I'm not massively fussed about Gazza playing but if there's a chance we could get someone better in on loan (Joe Hart? ) we should look into it.
Hope Rickie belts wanna at Gazza so he's injured and we get to loan in Brad Friedal. He really is an exceptional keeper!
I'm going to guess that RLGB wishes injury on our No.2 keeper, as in... Hope Rickie belts one at Gazza so he's injured and we get to loan in Brad Friedel Correct..? Not autocorrect..? It's probably Google Speak [or whatever you call the App] for the Android.
We have two decent goalkeepers in reserve, maybe 3. We shouldn't need a loanee. Regarding Gazza, my biggest concern with him previously was his seeming lack of confidence. He did not take charge of his penalty area, did not come for crosses and did not speak to his defence. I know he didn't do much on Sunday but I thought he came across as generally more confident and assertive.
Good article on Gazzaniga I think - http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/southampton/news/33458/time-to-back-gazzaniga
The whole point of a reserve keeper is that he can step in if needed...can't believe anyone would want Gazza injured. Give the lad a chance....the defence has improved so it will be easier for him this time. Anyone behind the goal who gasps if he bounces the ball before catching it should be summarily whipped behind a cart.
Yep, you're right, it is. I, for one will be 100% behind the lad. I think he's going to end up a really good keeper, plus he has that superb distribution ability. I think I mentioned during the Chelsea game, when Lambert had come on, that Gazza pinged the ball to him three quarters of the way upfield, right on his head, and Lambert barely had to move. I look forward to that sort of stuff on Wednesday and a clean sheet.
Friedel is into his 40s and would get down to low shots slower than Gazzaniga did for Chelsea's third yesterday. Would prefer SKD in goal than Gazza but we'll have to make do if the former is still out. Gazzaniga could prove quite a few people wrong (including me) over the next few weeks.
I just don't feel confident in PG abilities right now. Having said that he can prove a lot of people wrong and can only support him, wish him all the best for the Villa game (which I'm lucky enough to be attending this week). Hard for me to get time off work nowadays...
Pochettino confirms boruc has broken his hand and it is all about recovery time on hw long he is out for
Cheeky. Only saying what your gaffer said. And recovery time is all down to how quick each individual player heals
