Artur confirmed as being out until mid-January with a broken hand sustained in today's 3-1 loss against Chelsea. Kelvin is also injured so Paulo is the #1 for the immediate future. Kelvin should be back soon, so who do you back for the longer term? Personally, it's Gazzaniga. I know he's young and erratic, but I feel that Kelvin has proved unreliable with Sunderland and ourselves at this level. He flaps, has poor kicking and is susceptible to the near post gaffes. I know Paulo made a few big individual errors, but a lot of his issues seemed to lie with poor communication. Hopefully he can sort that out. A few of us asked if Paulo would ever get another chance and prove himself, well, we are about to find out... DTLW
Gazzaniga definitely. He's the better shot stopper and has a huge kick on him. Pochettino better ****ing use it!
Has to be Gazza...As good a servant as Kelvin has been i think he is finished as a top class goalkeeper. Paulo may not be that but I trust him more. It could be a nervous few weeks though. Let's hope whoever is in goal does themself and the club justice
Our defence needs to be exceptional now. Gazza needs to get some games under his belt to give him a bit of confidence. Clean sheet wed please!
For reference, Paulo's first league game last season was Aston Villa at home. We won 4-1. Same again please.
I just remembered that also, I hope it is a good omen! Big blow to lose Artur but there isn't anything we can do, except back Gazza and the team.
Gazza against Villa. It's a good time for him to get a game. Against tougher opposition I might prefer Davis.
Well this sucks, Gazza for me, although he looked like he was ****ting himself when he came on today.
Head says Gazza, heart says Davis. On a related note have any ITKs heard about a possible coaching role for Davis yet? I really want him around the club even if he's not playing.
Gazza was played too soon, was playing in front of a more iffy defence, and got mixed up with the uncertainty about our best keeper at the beginning of last season. We have no choice anyway, but he is older and has been training with two good keepers. Time for him to step up to the plate...a couple of good games could be the making of him. The manager, team and the fans have to show belief.
I'm not expecting Gazzaniga to stake a claim for a regular first team spot, but he'll do fine. Our defence is infinitely better than last time he was thrown in and let's be honest, Boruc has pulled his fair share of "Gazzas" recently so he's hardly a massive step down compared with what we've had lately even if he does drop a clanger or two.
I heard Davis is injured too. Maybe an emergency loan. We've done it before, can't remember who, someone a bit old and famous, maybe American.
Davis has been on the bench most of the season so expect him to get the nod although Gazzaniga will have a chance to stake his claim. It is too easy to write these players off as not good enough but their rotation did not help.Look how much better Fonte has done this year let's hope for the same. Finally if Davis is not fit on Wed will Britt be on the bench & is Schneiderlin ok?!
