I've got to say, when we first signed him and fans of his previous clubs came to us and told us how **** he was, I was sceptical at best. Just thought I'd let you know he's turned out to be a bloody solid defender for us, rarely made a mistake in his time here, and today not only looked every bit a premier league player but kept the undoubted world class Suarez firmly tucked away in his back pocket for 90 minutes. Very astute signing for free, excellent business on our part. Your loss is our gain, but sometimes it just doesn't work out for players at some clubs for whatever reason. All the best anyway, I miss our pissing contests whenever we play each other, no one in the prem seems to give a ****.
I was disappointed when we let Bruce go as I thought he was one of our only defenders at the time that were actually capable of playing the game of football. Never anything special but did a job, think his mistakes with kasper didn't help him to be honest. Certainly was better than the likes of Collins and O'Brien If he has done well for you though then great for the lad
Certainly wasn't our worst defender at the time, too inconsistent though and I don't think I'd swap any of Lees, Pearce, Wootton and Zaliukas for him at the moment.
Fair enough, but do you reckon any of that lot would be able to keep Suarez completely out of a game? He was also fantastic away at spurs in both the league and the cup, but in fairness it's not that difficult to defend against back passes I just thought some of you maybe surprised to hear he stamped authority all over a player like Suarez after some of the comments some of your lot had about him. I can't remember any Leeds fan having a good word to say about him but I believe you when you say you thought he was alright. Maybe he's improved a tonne with us, and granted he's not the most spectacular footballer, but he's a very consistent, reliable, hard working and fearless defender, I've not seen him be showed up by anyone since he joined us. He looked utter ****e in midfield though whenever papa beat decided to play him there.
Or maybe Alex Bruce is just far better than you thought. The way he's played for us, there's no way you release a player like him for nowt.
Well, it was warnock who released him and then when we played you he used Bruce as an example of the quality players you guys had...
Bruce had an outstanding game for us against Arsenal in the cup. Looked every bit a prem player in that clash. Always looked like he had a mistake in him though and most of the time looked no better than who he was paired with. Honest enough player though, good to hear he is doing well as I intially thought it was a job for the boys when his old man signed him!
Alex Bruce was no better than ok for us most of the time. I dont think he got on with the manager and he only played well when putting himself in the shop window, when we played prem clubs in the cups. Man Utd, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool ..... he was awesome when he wanted to be, but unfortunatley he only did it on the big games
Just looked up the stats and he's played 2,yes 2 fookin premier league games that really makes him a top league defender. come back in 6 months you fool.
Bruce was terrible ... had one great game in FA Cup at Arsenal when he did a similar job as to what you're describing. Trust me, he is slow, can't read the game, will cause havoc and make mistakes. I remember his stellar performance against Preston on a freezing Tuesday night ... 4-1 up and yet he contributed massively to us losing 6-4!! No, he is a carthorse, best thing we did was let him go. One game means nothing, here's hoping he plays the next twenty for you and then come back and give us an update.
Top half of the Premier League would state otherwise. Bruce is a defender who does the basics. An excellent tackler and very brave but terrible on the ball and can't pass. Now that he's learnt his limitations he is a solid enough defender. Not better than Davies or Chester, but reliable back-up.
I didn't like Bruce, glad he has left and would not want him back even if Hull were giving him away. As for how he is doing in a Hull shirt I honestly couldn't care less, nothing personal I just couldn't the same as I do not care how Becchio, Snodgrass and Howson are doing.
