It's been a strange season for me this year as I've had to make do with watching the rare live game and mostly having to read match reports. Little bemused as to the attitude towards a few of our players lately. #1 Matty Philips- only seen him play once when we played Reading and it was televised. I thought he was excellent (even tho he missed a sitter!). Seemed from various match reports that the consensus was really positive. Tho from yesterday's game, people are slating him and saying what a waste of money etc. Really? Anyone else ever have a bad day at work?! #2 Joey Barton - I fully understand that it is the humane thing to do in terms of forgiveness for certain behaviours especially when in the context of a sporting arena. However, the guy is an ABSOLUTE TOOL!! He is pretty much a parody. Entertaining yes, cult status never in a million years. And just when we thought he might have grown up, he rants off at one of the greatest pros the game has ever seen. He has lost the point, as people are celebrating his career achievements and contribution to the premier league (how many trophies you won Joey?!) This is not This Is Your Life. Should we be reminding that Joey Barton is a convicted criminal and an ex-alcoholic?! If so, the you sir, in your words are a Super ****. I'm frustrated at losing to Donny too. But it was always a banana skin of a game, but I really wish people would remember what sort of a club QPR is, where we have been and what we want to be. I will take the highs and lows whatever league we are in...... Bring on Bournemouth.....and I will be touching down at Heathrow tomorrow night after being away from Blighty for a year and will be straight on the blower to get my tickets.....I CANT BLOODY WAIT!!!!!! Gonna sing my heart out U R'ssss!!!!!
Yeah mate...you'll be back here sooner than you know it !! Do you have kids Newbury?..(no insult intended - genuine question)
Hi Queens, When you say back here, do you mean Asia or Malaysia specifically? You're in Oz right? Yes, have two kids - boy and a girl.
Your PM with Queenie aside, I can say that I understand your concerns and frustrations. Have a blinding trip home though mate.
Couldn't really care less about those looking down on Barton from their high horses. He's carrying the whole midfield at the moment. Phillips is a good Championship winger with potential. He'll have crap games occasionally.
That's exactly what's wrong with modern day football. Not only do "athletes" think they are above the law and society, so do many supporters. Why do we condone this sort of behaviour? Beyond me.....
Welcome back home Newbury. Sadly, if we were to take the moral high ground against the behaviour of footballers there would be few we would actually like, the moronic behaviour is part of the modern culture in football where, led by the sharks who negotiate their obscene deals, everything revolves around money and the more the better...
Don't get me wrong, I'm not stating that we should be ostracising all players who show a bit if dissent, bad attitude etc. But I will never 'support', in a moral sense, the arseholes who take 80k a week and give nothing back to the sport. Just my opinion......impart vented due to a loss against a weaker side. Ho hum. Bring on Bournemouth!
Can't really see why anyone would want to resurrect the 'Barton's a ****' debate - certainly not on the basis that he's slagged off someone else or that he happens to be an alcoholic. People are entitled to dislike Mr Barton, but he's been immense for us this season.
Interesting point Husky, but shouldn't an employee have a responsibility to the employee/company etc? In my line of work, like many, if I do something in the public eye anything that brings is deemed negative, I can get in a lot of trouble. If I post anything on Facebook or twitter that is careless I am liable to face disciplinary action. Now, for a footballer, someone who is idolised or acknowledged by thousands or millions, then there is defo an obligation to act accordingly. How many kids are on twitter and read those comments about Giggs? Would Clint ever do that? Course not. Why? Well, we all know the answer to that. And if he did, people would fall of their perch. But as it's Barton, it's ok.
I would like to remind people of the train crash waiting to happen that was Beckham in his early years. A little word was spoken, and he developed himself into a national treasure. Give Barton his due, he is trying on and off the field. He is immense for us this season...and yesterday, Barton of two years ago would have got that Donny player sent off, but he pleaded with the ref to keep him on. He is trying to lead by example, a few rash tackles her and there are in his character, but the psychotic behaviour appears to be missing But as Swords said (I think) no such thing as an ex-alcoholic.....it may all appear again...but lets hope not. It would be great for us and for him, if fatherhood has matured him. Whilst he works and tries as he is ...we must accept what we are seeing Thank you Joey
This all seems a bit hysterical to me: kids on twitter and FB are subject to far worse things, notably bullying from within their peer group. You're entitled to your opinion, but I can't really be bothered to say any more on the matter.
Beth, while I admire your optimism, and from the little coverage I have seen of Barton I am not disagreeing with his contributions on the pitch, but to compare to Beckham is a little off the mark. Becks was a simpleton pretty boy who wouldn't/couldn't hurt a fly (not including the sending off in France 98!) Barton is a convicted criminal with a huge list of misdemeanours on and off the pitch. And a bang average footballer. Let's not forget, he is playing championship opposition, not prem.
Who's condoning it? Should he never play again because he has been a **** in the past? He's been exemplary all season when he could have dug his heels in a la Cesar, Granero etc.
