I quite like the fact that in the Daily Fail article suggesting Luke is ready to go to Spurs for £30M, those providing feedback to the piece go from decrying the idiocy of him possibly going to Spurs, to the idiocy of the article itself, with people calling it lazy, il-informed, rubbish. That's the way to treat articles that are purely intended to cause the maximum stink for the minimum effort and accuracy.
I took it upon myself to write about this. The site hasn't covered the story yet, and an email was sent asking for someone to cover it. TSS, you will be pleased to know that I outlined why Saints didn't want or need to sell, why SFC will stand firm and why Shaw is committed to the project. Is scheduled to be online at 8am.
CBK is right though.......As the article does suggest that the spurs chairman are talking to Shaw's people. The fact they are perhaps known to each other does not give them the right to even suggest a move to spurs might be on as presumably permission is not or has not been given. It is time that the FA reigned in statements from agents and their dealings regarding possible transfer matters. It does seem to be getting out of hand.......
I think it's a sign of progress that even made-up rumors now have to note that Shaw won't leave in the winter and it would take 30 million to sign him in the summer just to have a shred of pseudo-credibility. A few months or maybe even a few weeks ago, they would have had Shaw ready to put pen to paper and handing in a transfer request within the next few days. Now we're getting more of the same sort of articles that are written about any starlet at a big club.
Pretty much this. When we finished 5th two years ago pretty much every player, even people like Cabaye and Santon who we'd only signed that season were being linked to "bigger" clubs on a weekly basis.
That must be an interesting story. A Geordie fan who lives in Plymouth. Navy..? Our own story of demography on here is AberdeenSaint. Can't remember how it goes though.
There's a few clubs, but probably not for a full back... Unless his future is as a winger? I'm pretty confident it won't be us again this time at least
Anyone trying for one of our players is no longer dealing with a club desperate for money. This means that the price we require may be too high for another team to pay. End result: nobody leaves unless it is in Saints' interest.
I lived in Soton (Shirley, Bitterne Park, Bitterne then Woolston) from 1975-1979 while I was at college. There are a few of us about - I met three Glaswegian Saints fans at the Stadium of Light, end of last season.
Shush don't tell them that, we all know that Luke is prone to injury and would not be a good investment!
Why would they want Shaw when they have two promising English left-backs already with Danny Rose and Zeki Fryers? Can't see the sense from their point of view.
Just a feeble attempt from Spurs to destabilise a rival they are worried about finishing below. AVB will probably be sacked after we out play them in December.... Much bigger club then us but really going in the wrong direction.
A good vintage for Southampton, the late seventies (I moved to London in 1982). The team winning the FA Cup then getting promoted, and not a bad city to be young in. What pubs did you frequent during your time down south?
They discussed the possible 30 mill move for Luke on Soccer Saturday. Matty said that Saints are in a position where they don't have to accept any offer for Shaw, but it is possible that he might be sold if Mauricio reckons he could put that money to better use. Must have been reading my posts
Merson is the only pundit (I use the term loosely) not to have bought into Saints worship....in fact, he got very angry about it last week. He seems personally offended by any club (and particularly Saints) daring to have any aspirations above their station. Don't know how he squared that with Portsmouth!
