Bruce has said that he'd like to manage England or a club in the champions league. Is he letting other owners know he's available or just thinking out loud?
****ing hell, about perfect timing as well. We're ****ed now, it will all begin with a Boxing Day team talk on the pitch... I think he's just confirming my suspicion that he's nowt but a fat ****.
Has he actually said in that interview that he wanted to be disloyal and only chose not to be because of his reputation for it? As I said when we appointed Bruce, there's not really much reason to worry about losing him. The clubs he'd choose to leave us for won't want him until he's done more with us than get second place in the Championship. If Newcastle, England, or a big club come in for him it'll be such a negative move for them since he's not really done anything better than what Newcastle are doing now it would amaze me, they'd be better from a PR point of view in going and getting some random foreign manager who's been pushing for European places with an unfashionable club.
Was this interview given before or after his meeting with Assem Allam to discuss transfer requirements? If it is a completely innocent remark it shows extremely bad timing what with all the other upset at the club at the moment.
It's clearer here - it's pretty up-to-date: http://www1.skysports.com/watch/video/9049044/bruce-i-regret-turning-down-newcastle-job?
Bruce does tend to get an awful lot of coverage in the media about his old jobs, his relative success, and for a manager that's employed by a current premier league team, he seems to talk about managing other clubs a lot more than other managers. I think he's done a cracking job but if an offer came from anyone other than palace and Sunderland (who have both changed managers already) then I think he'll go!
SB has always said this stuff. FACT He feels slighted as he's English. Anyways whens his contract run out. We should be getting him signed up on a five year deal.
I don't see the big issue here. Or is it just the fact that somebody is showing ambition that upsets people?
He doesn't seem to show respect to the clubs he's managing. He's regretting not taking the Newcastle job now publicly. These are the sort of comments that tend to come from managers who are out of work. Just think it's a bit tactless and disrespectful to Hull City. The man has appalling manners. He really needs to address his press ethic.
I think some make the mistake of thinking these are unsolicited quotes. Bruce tries like hell to dodge a lot of these daft questions, but it's a balancing act because if he evades it, the press will dig deeper. He knows the media will then print the sound bites as though it's Steve Bruce making a point, rather than him being polite to daft journos..
I know what you mean he does seem to talk about his past a lot, but apart from that he's really good in the press I think (and I think most City fans would agree with that).
He'll be off the first chance he gets and who could blame him? I'd want to be as far away from this circus as possible. This club is on the verge of going into meltdown with the owners disgusting plans.
I suspect you're right. The Long deal would have been a blow, but the PR on the current fiasco and the push from various places to take sides must drive him to despair. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. He doesn't need the money, so if his name's getting tainted, I see him grabbing any real opportunity. The solution lays in one persons hands.
