No need to apologise mate. This thread turned out quite interesting as well. Looking forward to the game against you - may the best team win. Good luck for the season
Why would it matter if Hull was once a slave port? The slave trade was a shameful period of human history, but was abandoned in Britain over 200 years ago- none of us is responsible for it. What we are responsible for is remembering it as one more example of man's cruelty to fellow men and making sure we learn lessons from it, so historical references and memorials serve a useful purpose in reminding us.
It wouldn't matter at all saint. Have you read the thread back? I posted a link to a Telegraph article about Hull and city of culture which was a good little read. I pointed out that in the comments section below the article there were some nice posts until a 'fight' broke out among 2 of them as to whether Hull was a slave port. One insisting it definitely was because he used to live in Hull and remembered going into a pub called The Black Boy, and one who insisted it definitely wasn't and put up the reason for the name of the pub. That's about it! [although it reminded me a bit of any discussion with smithy who doesn't appear to be able to handle counter arguments]
I like Hull. It has a ginned up unfair and innaccurate reputation just like we have outside our respective Cities.
forgot about Bristol. And I shouldn't have because I studied slavery as part of my degree - it must be my age getting forgetful - I still don't know my own phone number.
