Qpr fan in peace and slight follower of city. Went the derby and thought the players you had and the style you played looked good for the future. Most city fans I talk to say Sean was a good long term bet but struggling now. I would go for warnock. I know he is not liked down at the gate but as your manager you will love him and he will keep you up whilst you look for a longer term replacement
Can only agree that I hope the board has someone in mind so that we don't spend ages agonising over who is and isn't going to be our new "Head Coach" mind you, who in their right minds would want the poisoned chalice that is Bristol City.
yep arrived at 9:48 to be precise Dear ****, I am contacting you as I believe that our supporters deserve to hear about the most important news directly from the club. This morning we have chosen to part company with head coach Sean OâDriscoll with immediate effect. Over this last year, we as a club have made our strategy very clear. The five pillars built around Academy & Youth, Community, Recruitment, Facilities and Financial Prudence are the right ones and are strong. This strategy will not, and must not, change. We have seen increasing numbers of examples where our strategy has been bearing fruit. It is still early days, but the progress is solid and we are building an enduring platform for sustainable long-term growth. However, results on the pitch have been poor. We have given the situation as much time as we could to improve but have become increasingly concerned about the club's league position and have decided that a change of head coach will give the club the best possible chance of improving this. The league table does not lie. We are currently in the relegation zone and have been there for most of the season. This is not acceptable and the board feels that it needs to take action to try and rectify this; we need to move to ensure that results on the pitch keep up with progress off the pitch. It is vital that we now look to appoint a head coach who buys into our strategy and can help us to continue to grow and develop it successfully. This, of course, includes results on the pitch. This is an important decision and one which we will take careful consideration and diligence in making. For the immediate future, first team coach John Pemberton will take charge of the first team for this weekendâs trip to Preston North End and will continue to do so until a new permanent head coach is appointed. Thank you for your support. Jon Lansdown
I have to say i am astounded by the timing of this - 1 defeat in 7 - why now?? They MUST have someone lined up, surely?
I'm gutted. He seemed like a nice guy that wanted to do things the right way, and he seemed to love living in Bristol. That being said, the results speak for themselves. I reckon the board were more than happy to keep him on, but over the past few months I've seen him go from optimistic to jaded in the job, and I don't think it's down to the results. Despite his failings with us, he'll find a new job in the Championship or at a leading League 1 team. The fact that he stuck around for so long says it all about him really. For me, the fault lies solely with the board. SOD is just another sucker that bought into the idea of joining a club that could go places. I wish him all the best in the future, and I hope to see him succeed elsewhere. As I've said on here before, it almost doesn't matter who takes over, because they'll probably suffer the same fate as SOD, McInnes, Millen, Coppell, and GJ. Tactical nous clearly counts for little, since SOD failed so miserably. I reckon our best bet is to go with someone who is charismatic and outspoken. For me, the best bet is Paolo Di Canio. He'll call the board on their bullshit, will have genuine passion for the task at hand, and he'll ****ing snap some legs if the players don't perform for him.
Don't know how you can say that, won the champions league when Chelsea looked down and out...also didn't he take West Brom up to the prem? Anyway, he won't come to us, much too small of a club.....Him or Zola I wanted when GJ went but those days are LONG gone. I think they will go for Tisdale from Exeter, but I'm not excited, not proven and will be another cheap option IMO. Not a great choice out there, Colin would certainly stir things up, but not sure he would have the patience with our board... Of course, there's always Junior !!!!!!!! He would be cheap!
"yep arrived at 9:48 to be precise" So why say he walked.? Oh yeah I see, that suits you better as it means you were only partially wrong about his appointment..
So who are the options? Here's a list (off the top of my head and in no particular order) Hollowhead DiCanio GJ LJ Tisdale Warnock Cotterill Curle Connor DiMatteo Dowie Hartley Pemberton
GJ isn't gonna come back, move on!!!!!!!!!!!!! DiMatteo, ridiculous to think he would go from Champions League to League 1, Pemberton won't get a look in, Hartley, wtf would anyone employ him? Hollohead wouldn't come here for a billion quid, and not sure what all the worry is about him coming here, its unrealistic!
read the below This morning we have chosen to part company with head coach Sean O’Driscoll with immediate effect. Does it say sacked NO,Does it say part company YES. I still reckon he wanted players in, and was refused,i reckon between them they decided it best to part company.
There is a manager that used to play for us and has two successive promotions under his belt albeit with Alloa and is currently being lined up for the Inverness job- He does at least know what a midfield is too- He did have issues being homesick but I liked him as a player and would be happy for him to take over. My only concern would be if that would be taking a D Mac route again as far as experience goes. Warnock would be a good bet but personally don't think he would come. Reckon we will get Tisdale myself. I live very close to Exeter and a lot of their fans were getting anxious about our position and the possibility of us poaching him
In August I wrote 'Just listened to SOD's interview. I'm sorry the bloke drives me nuts. Moaning he doesn't have this player or that - FFS he's brought in half a dozen or so - how many does he want. If truth be told then perhaps his choice of addition is not up to it. Serious doubts over Wagstaffe and Fielding who played today. If more truth be told I'm convinced SOD doesn't have a clue who his best team is' And then the clowns started ... RODney - '****sake we are not football managers, we don't know what the players are like might be carrying slight knocks etc' Dicksout - 'It must give you some small comfort to know how brilliant a tactician and critic you are' BJA - 'No better name for whinger Redprintt......Victor Redprintt Meldrew.....four games gone and he/she is at it already!!!' I could have pasted more rubbish from Logger,Clifton,RedRobin etc etc - but I'm very forgiving. Apologies will be accepted.
Di Matteo?! No. Just no. There is no ****ing way he is going to go from Champions League winner to League 1 loser. The guy could probably land a job in the Premier League easily, and has been tipped for a number of jobs in Serie A and La Liga over the past year. Why the **** would he come to a third division team in England?! Since SOD is gone I reckon the club already know who is next on the list. Sadly, I reckon it'll be another yes man.
Keith Curle for me, understudy of Warnock, ex city player.. did well at notts county, experienced in league 1 No brainer??
Glad to wake up on Thanksgiving Day over here and read the news. To be fair, SOD was given a very challenging remit with the cost cutting at the club, but for me, he failed as a tactician and motivator. He inherited a poor team last January, but seemed to be resigned to relegation from the start and we went down with barely a whimper. And this term, despite bringing in players and having a long pre-season, he has mostly failed to inspire the players AND has employed highly negative tactics. For me, one of the biggest qualities of a manager has to be in motivating his players, and SOD clearly couldn't do that last season or this. Admittedly I'm over here in Chicago so I have to mostly rely on what I read, but with just a handful of exceptions this season, after most games people have been baffled by the negative tactics and lack of bite/penetration on the pitch. It is slightly ironic that the sacking comes after what appears to have been a spirited display against the mightly Leyton Orient and not the home defeat last Sat to Sheffield United. As others have said, it's a results-based business, and SOD's record (as well as how the team have been set up and have played under him) has been very poor. This had to happen, and sooner rather than later. Who should come in? I cringe to read that Di Canio is the bookies favourite. Sorry, that's going to the other extreme. I don't know who would be best long-term, but despite my dislike of him, Warnock would be my choice as a short-term manager (to the end of the season). His record speaks for itself.
