Apart from the big top 10 or so clubs in the Prem...are there really any other clubs doing this on such a large scale & actually flying in from aboad for a game..? Ive never heard of it outside Manchester & Liverpool? Anyone else? Massive well done lads and fantastic effort by Kilburn...Keep it up!
Well, I'm back home safely and have caught up on some sleep after experiencing a magnificant match day last Sat with many of you, and I would like to thank everyone for the wonderful hospitality shown towards me to make it such a memorable day for me. And what a fantastic goal scored by Charlie Austin at our School end, to cap the match off with a win. Thank you also so much to you all for the Dennis the Menace, away shirt with Kilburn 60 that was presented to me at the Crown & Sceptre to mark my birthday next month. The 4XL fits me perfectly and now I can switch shirts on Sat's when I follow our away games. On the plane home to Canada, I jotted down as many people as I could remember meeting at the Crown & Sceptre, at the match, and post match celebrations at the Coningham Arms - quite the list, and I have no doubt missed a few, so please let me know if that is the case - off my list:- Finglas (thank you so much for your tremendous organization, travel tips & directions to make this such a great day for me) - I also had the opportunity to meet Finglas' uncle & aunt, brother (Alan), nephew, cousin & Sharon. Roller & Nines (our headmasters, keeping us all on the straight & narrow) - thanks to Roller for getting me in the match programme - another wonderful momento of my day in W12. Flanman (who made the trip over from Holland) Inky (yes, he's tall) Tooting Kingdom Brendan Hoops Eternal & son Tom Wherever & daughter TerryB John22 Wandle Sooperhoop DT (yes, quite the man) BelfastR After our post-match festivities at the Coningham, after biding farewell to the Irish R's heading for the trip back to Dublin, I stopped off at the Swan pub Hammersmith to use the facilities and ran into 5 Fulham attired fans waiting for a dinner table - I enquired how they made out and also how our boy Taarabt was making out with them and they appeared somewhat nonplussed, just said - could be better. It turned out they were all from Holland and had come over for the Fulham v Swansea game, that they lost 2-1. They indicated that they liked to come over for matches, in part due to Martin Jol, but also to experience the closer to pitch atmosphere, since in Dutch football games they said you were much further away. Maybe they should try the Loftus Road experience instead! Another slightly funny event, later back at the hotel having a beer (Boddingtons) and sandwich watching the Newcastle v Norwich game action, a group of foreign language speakers nearby speculated on whether the NOR shown on the screen indicated this was Norway playing! Anyway, back to the reality of work for me tomorrow, but I had an absolutely fantastic return to W12 after so many years away - hope to make it back again some day.
hope tou had a great time Kilburn must say you don't look 60 on the vox pop might make it back myself oneday touch wood
These are the type of threads that should make their way to TF and board. I'd be thinking that if TF knew of all the meet ups around the globe, it would be very pleasing to him to see what real QPR fans are like and the efforts that they go to for one another. Well done, folks.
Thanks, but I do feel it at times, especially with body flexibility, and the Irish R's will attest to that as I struggled to climb from my seat at Loftus Road to the back row for a photo op! Let's hope my brother in Melbourne, Australia doesn't catch that episode of vox pop, as my wife says I possibly slated him with one of my comments - but he was never a Ranger, and it was just Dad & myself that attended the R's games. We lived in Hampshire, and he only visited the Dell for Saints games to see football action due to the convenience & proximity (20 min drive away). I joined him on occasion as a neutral, but never cared about the end result.
Glad you got home safely Kilburn and that you enjoyed your day. Like you, we all needed an emergency pit stop at Clapham Junction on our way to Gatwick. That lemonade runs through you. While we were in the Conyngham Arms after the game, Kevin Gallen went to the Crown & Sceptre to meet us. Hopefully the next time you come over you will get to meet him. Cherish the memories. It was a special day all round.
Glad you got home safe & sound Klburn. It was an absolute pleasure meeting you. Just don't leave it 38 years next time!
Seems the C&S has become the venue of choice. Is the pub under 14 friendly as I usually have at least one in tow?
Very nice to meet you Kilburn and pleased you made it home safely. We had problems at Shepherds Bush and Clapham Jct, people just disappeared and reappeared several stops later, very confusing and I was sober. Did you pick up any whiskey on the homeward journey?
Hello Belfast - It was extremely nice to meet you and the whole gang too. Yes, I did pick up a 1 litre bottle of Bushmills "Black Bush" Irish whiskey, that I sampled and really enjoyed at the Coningham Arms, and am looking forward to sipping on it again when I crack it open. Really glad I was introduced to that excellent beverage. Here in New Brunswick, the sale of liquor is government controlled, but I see they carry the following three Bushmills whiskey products:- 5010103918350 Bushmills 10 Irish Whiskies 00 750 $41.29 5010103918336 Bushmills Black Bush Irish Whiskies 00 750 $37.49 5010103918381 Bushmills Original Irish Whiskies 00 750 $29.99 How different from Black Bush would the Bushmills 10 be? Regarding your train journey to Gatwick, I believe Finglas mentioned that emergency bathroom breaks en route were necessary, as was the case for me at Hammersmith, when I was forced to go in the Swan pub between stops to use the facilities, where I actually met a group of five Dutch Fulham supporters who had come over from Holland just for the game against Swansea (they lost 2-1), - in part due to Martin Jol, but they also like the proximity of the pitch to the stands, compared to football in Holland where the crowd is much further away they said. While waiting on the platform at Shepherds Bush Market, I talked to a couple in hooped shirts, and was surprised to learn that they were visiting from New York and had taken in our Charlton game for a football "experience".
I believe it's the ageing process in the cask. Black Bush should be the senior of the whiskey's, however I'm not an expert, so I hope u enjoyed anyway. Bathroom stops will have to be accounted for in any future planning. We need a team/side to inspire along the lines of your dedication.
Black Bush is definitely the best Kilburn. I'm just glad we all made it home safely Belfast. We had a few novices with us. BTW Belfast, I'm not going to Blackburn. Couldn't reply to your text as was working. Kingdom is going.
Of course he was. He flew over with the rest of us but did his own thing prior to the match and sorted out his own match ticket. He came to the Conny after the game 999's.
I had a great day out, another beer and I'd have probably ended up catching the flight back to Dublin with the rest of you lads before I'd realised it.
