2 years ago today since he died.. Canny player, but obviously had problems.. How highly as a player did you rate him?... Try and keep it civil. let's see how long this lasts.
Greater Manchester, in park at night in 2008. Hung himself from a tree. He was a coach on our books at the time.
By Keith Perry 1:29PM BST 21 Jun 2008 Former Sunderland Football Club goalkeeper Tim Carter has been found dead after apparently hanging himself. The ex-Black Cats shot stopper was discovered in bushes by a passer-by. He had been reported missing from his home in Durham early on Thursday morning. His body was found in Manchester just after noon on Thursday. A source confirmed he was found with rope around his neck and it is believed he hanged himself. A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly after 12pm on Thursday 19 June police were called to Highfield Close in Stretford following reports of a body found. "Officers attended and found the body of a 40-year-old man. "There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances." Mr Carter, who was recently appointed as Sunderland's academy goalkeeping coach, was pronounced dead at the scene. A file has been passed to the coroner and a post-mortem examination will take place next week. Mr Carter played 50 games for the Premiership club between 1987 and 1992. He was the first-team goalkeeping coach before the arrival of ex-Manchester United star Raimond Van Der Gouw last summer. He also coached Estonia's national team goalkeepers on a part-time basis. He was capped three times with England's youth squad in 1985 and made his Football League debut for his local team Bristol Rovers at just 18. He joined Sunderland on Christmas Eve in 1987.
Wasn't he in a bad way 'cos of the death of a son or something. Hard to take. Regarding Speed - AS A FOOTBALLER - i never thought he was special, but he played plenty in the Prem so I must be wrong. Its a crying shame whoever and whenever. x
Tricky one for me this tbh. Suicide is a very sad thing if you just can't carry on ....... but to hang yourself, in your own garage, knowing your wife or sons would find you is something else. I hate pointless conspiracy theories but there was a couple of things that struck me as strange about this. It seemed to me that he wanted to be found by his wife and I'm puzzled that it took her 10 minutes, or more, to call an ambulance. Seriously, imagine you've just found your partner hanging from a rope then watch the clock as it counts up to 10 minutes. It's a bloody long time imo.
The sad thing is the genuinely suicidal person is not thinking straight and often have the warped belief that killing themselves is absolutely the best thing they can do for their family as they see themselves as a burden. There are those however who want to go out with a great big "**** you" to someone who has wronged them though this is rare in my professional experience. Forgot about Tim Carter Damn shame.
if you want a good read try a hangmans tale ,peirpoint was the best man for the job , recommend it to read
There are NO CIRCUMSTANCES where any comment of yours is welcome or required - so **** and stay off ... on the other hand, yes - a tragedy, RIP. As for the OP's question, imo Gary Speed in his prime would walk into any team in the Premiership.
The fact that he'll try to creep back on here by using an RIP thread shows how little class he has. The lad who left the board is worth ten of the creep who had a hand in his departure.
jeez, 2 years already. crying shame and a very sad, yet odd, way to go for the consumate professional. he wasn't a star/spectacular, but he got the midfield more than ticking over for every team he played for. could tackle well, score from range and close in, inc with his heed. he'd be a regular starter coz you know what you'd get week in and week out.
