I represent a community group started by supporters of Hull City AFC called City Till We Die, named after one of our regular songs. No To Hull Tigers is the slogan of our current campaign. Our current owner Dr Assem Allam wants to change our name from Hull City to Hull Tigers because he thinks City is a âlousy identityâ, âirrelevantâ and âcommonâ. A number of fan groups have united to oppose the proposed name change. As part of the campaign we sing âCity Till I Dieâ at 19 minutes 4 seconds into our matches. 19:04 was chosen because Hull City AFC was formed in 1904. You may have seen reports of the protests against Crystal Palace which resulted in "bannergate". Here is some fan footage as the stewards tried to remove a "We are Hull City" banner: http://youtu.be/nw5rShB19OI We will be leafleting supporters in the run up to kick off and you may also spot our badges and scarves around the KC. I hope your supporters will show our campaign some respect on Sunday at 19 minutes 4 seconds. We already have the support of one Liverpool legend, details on our Facebook page. Full details of our campaign can be found at: http://www.citytillwedie.com/ https://twitter.com/NoToHullTigers https://www.facebook.com/NoToHullTigers Please give us a like and if you support our aims sign our petition: http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitio...erse-the-unwanted-rebranding-of-hull-city-afc Thank you.
If he was changing the 'Hull' part, I'd understand, but it's hardly the end of the world to replace 'City' with 'Tigers', in my opinion. And to be fair, 'City' IS a lousy identity; countless teams are something City, you're just one of the bunch. Don't understand the huge fuss about it
You weren't best pleased with your badge change was you? Got to respect club traditions - we wouldn't understand fully as its not our club
I agree. Completely behind the Hull fans. Imagine if we became Liverpool FC Birds, the Liverbirds, Merseyside Reds or Everton Reds?
Our new badge design was just ****e, **** all to do with tradition for me I understand as I live there & it's nonsense imo
But it's not like that at all. Their nickname IS The Tigers. It's on their badge. Someone's come along and removed the boring, common addition of 'City' and plonked their nickname at the end instead to give a bit of individuality and a new personality. An equivalent would be Manchester United changing names to Manchester Red Devils, West Bromwich Albion to West Bromwich Baggies or Everton Football Club to Everton Bitters (). Ok. But my point remains. I don't see the huge fuss in using an already established nickname in place of the boring current ending. It's not a radical change. Seems very petty.
Please do not making the mistake that all our fans are really bothered by this. You are on anorak central/flat earth forum on here.Did I mention abusive and intolerant of a different opinion forum Have to say you Liverpool fans have been the best I have been on a forum with.Seriously reasonable and up for a laugh without the usual threats and sbuse.
Forgot to mention it is incredible double standards if this thread is not merged in the way I have had new thread attempts tucked away.
Not a fan of Americanising any club from any sport, especially football. Hearing some of the names from Rugby League is cringeworthy. I feel bad for the Hull fans.
That's fine, but we could market the nickname & the logo & leave the traditional name alone. We just don't need to go overboard with the gimmicky Tiger nickname.
I think it's up to Hull fans whether they want the name change or not and not our place to say that they're over-reacting. It seems like a minor change to me, but is symptomatic of a larger trend where big money owners come in from abroad and just change things on a whim, with little or no regard for the wishes of the fans. If Hull fans themselves are divided then they need to sort themselves out, but if the consensus is that they don't want the change then we should be supportive imo. I signed the petition because I think it might at least get the owner to stop and think before riding roughshod over the people who are the real life-blood of the club- the fans.
I know I would not like our name changed to the Liverpool Liverbirds nor would the everton toffees seem right so I fully support the hull fans in this. To those saying it is a minor change just think about the above names for a sec or cast your mind back to when there was talk of renaming anfield - hell even when there was talk of a new ground a large number wanted that called anfield. Fans like the tradition of their club.
Next time I get up a petition to make me a Lord I take it I can rely on your support then? Provided you're bored at the time.
