Quick heads up St Peter's Christmas Ale, it's a wonderful pour - 4 for a fiver at Tesco. Get out, get some & join me in my world. http://www.stpetersbrewery.co.uk/products/seasonal-beers/christmas-ale/ http://www.tesco.com/groceries/prod...?N=4294792564 4294795493&Ne=4294793660&Nao=60
Bought a mountain of wine from Tesco this week - the 25% offer when buying 6 bottles ends this week Glitch with the deal as normal - look for bottles in the 2 for £10 range that are £8-99 or £9-99 individually as the 25% discount comes off the full price of the bottle So, 6 bottles of wine in the 2 for £10 offer at £9-99 each means 6 * £9-99 = £60 2 for £10 offer = -£30 25% off = £2-50 a bottle or £15 Total price is £15 for 6 bottles I'm not naive enough to think those bottles in the 2 for £10 deal at £9-99 each are £9-99 outside this deal range, but £15 for 6 bottles is pretty decent - got 18 sat in the garage that the wife won't know about until nearer Xmas
I like an ale, Benjamin. Oh I do. But I'll be declining this offer on account of being from...I can't say it...from...Tescos. I don't use that place anymore Ben, not even for a piss. Can't go into it now, still psyching myself up for the clubcard burning ceremony, but that's the cut and thrust of it. Enjoy your beer...if you can.
McEwan Champion is a great tipple chilled or at room temperature... And usually on offer on Tesco. At the upper end of 7% abv it has a pleasing effect as well.
in belgium we was on this lovely brew at about 8.5% - it was some sort of cherry flavoured lager , it was like vimto or summat
Make 5 your limit gents, my head's a little fuzzy this morning. Although it's been easier on the arse than Old Peculiar.
In Denmark, Carlsberg and Tuborg launch a Christmas beer every year, on the day it's released it's free in every bar in the country. I went three years running, t's a good laugh, but it doesn't half get messy.
At the local "English pub" they have London Stout & Youngs on tap. From the shops I like to try the "Bières artisanales" - locally brewed and also some "Bière Bio" which means organic. Lyon also has its own brewery called 'Ninkasi', although it's not to my taste. As for wine, I live in the Cotes du Rhone region and for £3 you can buy the various & always good 'Cotes du Rhone Villages', for £5 you get a very good bottle of 'St Jospeh' or 'Crozes Hermitage', £8 or £9 will get you an excellent 'Chateau Neuf du Pape' and if you want the best £20+ for my favourite, 'Cotes Rotie' which is probably for special occasions but you have to taste at least once in your life. One hour north is the 'Beaujolais' region, which also has some gems such as 'Fleurié', 'Saint Amour', 'Morgon', 'Moulin au Vent' however the wine from the recent festival, 'Beaujolias Nouveau' is rather acidic since it's the first harvest. They sell it abroad, the Japanese are mad for it.
Currently enjoying Addlestones Cloudy Premium Cider - 3 for £5 at Sainsbury's. Actually tastes like cider not fizzy appletizer. Its a murky colour, smells a bit musty and ain't too gassy. Not perfect (no lumps in it) but not bad and better than the ****ing evil monstrosities that masquerade as cider down the beer aisle these days. The daughter drinks fruit flavoured cider. Strawberry, raspberry and bleedin' cumquat flavour. Fizzy as phosphorous dropped into water. One pint and you belch for a week. But will she understand the irony of fruit flavoured cider? Is an apple not a fruit these days?
A friend of mine gave me a 2003 bottle of Cotes Rotie for my 30th a few years ago which she'd bought whilst visiting the vineyard. I was told it was best drunk at 10 years of age so waited until my birthday this year before we shared it out. It was bloody good stuff but it seemed a bit mental waiting so many years to drink it and then caning it within an hour, (after breathing time of course). Especially after being led to believe it was then worth somewhere between £100-£150. I'm no real wine connoisseur though - single malts are my main tipple of choice. A good Islay whisky will always be my favourite beverage.
