it will be hard cover for my favourites, e-format (pdf, kindle etc) for all others. I suspect big selling books will do a paper back collection release as they will have the fan following to justify doing the print run
The pink un was finished here about five years ago as a paper and is now on line,in my younger days playing away from home on the longer journeys the paper would be printed and out sometimes before we got back home ,quite strange reading in the the paper how i played only hours before ,i still have many papers from years past going back to before the war, very interesting reads.
Is it being done due to lack of sales or environmental reasons though? AS much as I too have fond memories of reading the Footy Echo and have relatives from Manchester and London who subscribed and had it sent to them in years gone past, the advent of the internet and such like has all but killed off the need for a weekly newspaper. Daily ones are struggling to keep up so Weekly/Monthly ones are really struggling. Also with Sky, you can watch the full game at 10pm on football first anyway and therefore don't need the paper. As an old fart I mourn the passing of a piece of my past and I love newspapers but my 8 year old never reads them and wouldnt dream of doing so. She instead uses the internet (especially) and TV for her information and I think its a trend that will only deepen in future years. I think that in another 10-15 years or so there will be almost no daily papers as tablets take over and subscriptions and readerships dwindle.
i agree cest, where i am its the same with the local amatuer clubs all the bigger ones have gone on line, i have gone to lengths to explain that the older ones in the community look forward to reading the local round ups from around the counties leagues, there are lots of folk who have not got the internet and such like, another trimming down that is not welcomed imo
I may be wrong but didn't the colour of the Football Echo change if we were relegated? It was pink if we were in the old first division and changed to a sort of greenly blue when we got relegated.
As a kid, we had the Footy Echo delivered for as long as I can remember as did many in our street. There's no denying the world has moved on at a rapid pace, but I was always amazed how quickly it was delivered in those days - usually before Sports Report had finished on the wireless, which was 6pm!! I've not seen it for years, but it also had loads of scores from the local amateur leagues (football and rugby) printed at right angles on the bottom of the back page. Just for the record, it changed colour to green when we were first relegated before returning to pink when we were promoted.
As a committed environmentalist, I can certainly see the benefits of ditching paper and turning to the Internet, but I can't help feeling nostalgic about something that has been with me for ever..
I can remember the Hartlepool Mail equivalent of the Football Echo, that was always green. Don't know if they still do it these days.
No mate the Hartlepool "Sports Mail" ceased to exist a number of years ago. Very sad about the Football echo, I live in Durham and used to wait in our local newsagents on Saturday night for it arriving. I still have a copy of the 73 Cup Final ("They've Done It") edition.
Now I can't afford this But look what I've found! Make sure one of you lads snap this baby up. I'd love it for my collection http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sunderlan...a_Football_Memorabilia_ET&hash=item2ecbfc3fc2 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sunderlan...a_Football_Memorabilia_ET&hash=item3a87db5778 Bit pricey.
