I will be at the game tonight, be interesting to see the attendance that is for sure. I don't think there is an incentive for this game but sometimes i can't keep up with all the kids for a quid and £5, £10 offers. Cold midweek November night is bound to see the gate drop but at least it is not raining or blowing a gale, otherwise we would be looking at around 3,000 mark...maybe still will. How many of them will be already paid ST holders would be interesting to know. If there is anytime to get along and support your club it is NOW! We've signed a new CB Donervon Daniels on emergency loan up to and including the Wolves game. Emergency what's up with our own young lads but hey let's give the lad a chance and see how it goes. Can't decide on my team. But Davies in with Daniels and not Barrett and Legge...go on PT give it a go. Must start with Dack. No booing tonight please, it really don't help the team.
See block H of GRS is closed for home fans too so i would think they are sticking the Boro fans in there like the Brackley game. Looking forward to seeing Daniels play. He's got bags of pace and is v strong for someone only turned 20. Id like to think he will bring a bit of composure to the back four as we try to get the ball forward on the floor i hope. The first 15 mins will set the tone for the crowd. Hope we have something to get upbeat about or i feel the boos wont be far away. Team is a tough choice but would like to see Dack start too. Dont think Hewitt & Harriman worked although i can see it being tried again but i hope not Nelson Hewitt Daniels Barrett Martin Whelps Mousinho Dack Weston Cody Kedwell Alternative may be Dack just behind Kedwell which is where he should play with Cody dropping to bench and Hollands in the Middle. Would love to see young Hess get a run out too but maybe not in this sort of game. From the O/S preview (give Westley some credit for the job he's doing ) Stevenage will be without Jimmy Smith through suspension after the midfielder was sent off against Peterborough at the weekend. David Gray is expected to replace him but is likely to be the only change for Darren Ferguson’s men. COYG
I will be there and won't boo OUR team also I've never left a game before the final whistle! Harriman look out of position to me on Saturday, Cody looked poor but I would give him another couple of starts at least (strikers seem to be the most complicated of footballers! - who knows when / if he will start scoring again?) Hoping for a game to keep us warm and happy tonight UTG Roy
We could do with a win tonight, with harder games coming up after this.Stevenage will be confident after their 1-0 win at Peterborough. We need a much better performance than we got on Saturday.
I think Gillingham will line up as follows....................... --------------------------Nelson---------------------------------- Hewitt----------Daniels----------------Barrett----------------Martin ----------------Hollands--------------Mousinho-------------------- Harriman---------------Whelpdale-----------------------------***an -------------------------Kedwell-------------------------------------- Subs: Howard (GK), Legge, Dack, Lee, Weston, Akinfenwa, McDonald The bench starts to look that much more stronger now we have signed Donervon Daniels and he will defiantly start tonight with Leon Legge dropped to the bench, Callum Davies might not be in the squad tonight as he may well look to go out on loan and that could well mean that Antonio German gets into the eighteen man squad or more likely Jake Hessenthaler who seems to be getting named in the side on a regular basis. I think ***an should start on the right with Weston on the left but I can see Elliott Hewitt and Michael Harriman starting down the right and Craig ***an will probably start down the left with Chris Whelpdale playing in the number ten role behind Danny Kedwell, we could start with ***an and Weston on both wings but as neither player seem to be able to last ninety minutes at the moment I would keep Myles Weston on the bench and look to bring him on against tiring defenders. I think we need the added protection and security of a fifth midfielder in the side, when we played four up-front at the end of the game against Oldham Athletic we just lost the ball in the middle of the park very easily and there was nothing in our play what so ever, every long ball to Danny Kedwell was headered clear and Oldham Athletic could hit us on the counter attack. With Champions League on The TV, A Evening Kick Off and Stevenage likely to only bring 150 - 200 fans I think this will be a 4,400 attendance possibly 4600 tonight but that will be as high as it will go. We know this won't be a easy game but it is defiantly the more winnable match out of our two home games, we ideally needed to win both games against Oldham and Stevenage but now we got to win tonight and against Rotherham to ease the pressure on our shoulders and move further clear of the bottom four. I will take the same performance and result that we got against Carlisle United where we were dreadful but picked up all three points but hopefully Gillingham perform better then that and win convincingly and pick up all three points with a performance to match as well ( although I just cannot see that type of performance happening tonight) - it is vital that we win tonight and we really need all three points against Stevenage - COME ON YOU GILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This will be harder than league positions suggest, Stevenage have beaten Peterborough, Leyton Orient, Brentford, "football is a funny old game"
yes gills win. much better from Gills actually deserved the win . Well done important win tonight and new signing Daniels scores
Better - Hewitt impressed made some really intelligent passes, Funny how Weston improved as soon as cody was on the touch line waiting to come on -coincidence? One step at a time but that was an easier night to be a supporter!
An excellent second half last night and even at half time I said to my son, I can't believe Stevenage scored in the first half with their practically only one and decent shot. Some times when your up against it, luck can tend to apprear to go against you. But second half we came out a much better team and how refreshing was that! The stand out player for me...Mousinho - no not just because of his header but anyone that was watching him well before that would have been impressed. Also another mention for Keds...did he ever give the ball away?...it was like every time it came in his direction it became nailed to him but sorry Danny this time John gets my MOM I'm also liking the look of our loan number 28 Daniels big strong lad but one with more energy then the experienced players (sorry had to drop that one in there for anyone that follows my youth posts). Still got to feel sorry for Davies. Who needs strikers when we've got Mousinho and Daniels...oh and of course the penalty king Keds...smash and grab...NO...not on this occasion a very well deserved win. I can't go to Rotherham on Saturday and I'm gutted after that display...still i'll listen to it on Gills Player...Up The Gills
A much improved performance from everyone really. One or two shaky moments and the 2nd Stevenage goal was very sloppy and very similar to the Oldham goal. Daniels - Had an ok debut. Was up against some big aggressive forwards and struggled in the air a bit. However his distribution and pace are going to be a huge asset in the coming weeks...knows where the goal is too and finish was quality and will do him the world of good. Had a couple of chances to add to his tally too so gets in good positions. Barrett - Apart from the miss of the all time in the world ever ever ever the skipper was well on top of his game last night. Much improved Mousinho was my MOTM. Thought he was outstanding last night and capped it off with a superb header. Hewitt was not too far away from the MOTM either. The nearest to a Jack Payne sort of performance i have seen for a while. Kept the ball well and his distribution was very good. Most good things started at his feet. Still frustrated with a few but wont talk about them as it was a much improved performance and can look forward to Saturday now
Hoadie- I moved your post to the ratings thread which is also a sticky on this board. Debate on this one and ratings on the other thread, seems to be the current trend with posts...thanks
I enjoyed that Much improved performance with all the players deserving the credit, I thought ***an was close for MOM with some really good crosses but also his work when he didn't have the ball. ***an was always tracking back to defend, nice to see him cover the full back when they got forward, worked hard off the ball to close down the Stevenage midfield to cut off their ability to use that route for attacks and this forced them into a long ball game.
Bet the skipper is a relieved his miss didnt really affect things in the end. Trust he'll be getting some good banter on the training ground for it. Its was a great cutback from Daniels after Westons cross look like it was going out of play
Sorry Adam...but you didn't think we was not going to notice you missing this....lol....
Not even sure if it would have gone in if another goal had been placed on top or the existing one...haha...TAXI on Soccer AM Saturday morning anyone?? Is this worse though? I think Rocky Baptiste's is still my all time favourite
Superb win. Stevenage had a couple of spells but I really don't think they were worth the two goals they got. Their first goal (also first and only real shot of the whole half), whilst dipping, should have been stopped. Poor keeping in my eyes and against the run of play. The second goal was a little more deserving but prior to it it was really all Gillingham. They got a bit of confidence from it but we had a nice element of control to the game and we worthy of the three points. Our second might be deemed dubious though. Barrett was preventing their goalie from diving in that direction (not that I think he would have saved it anyway)...there weren't any real complaints from their own players however. For all the stick Taylor has gotten, he has added four very quality players to this team and, if he has some success in the transfer window, he'll turn this team right around. We need to try and keep all these guys for the duration. It looks like he found a system last night which worked very well. Lots of positives but at times they need to know when the pass just isn't there.
Where I sit looks along the line at the Rainham end, their keeper was NOT restricted from diving for the second goal, Barrett was on the floor but not restricting the keeper in any way.
Having just watched the highlights again..you are spot on Grumpy. Definitely not impeded. Great ball back in from ***an too & a top finish. Daniels may become a fans favourite i think. Just watched his post match interview, speaks very well and seems to have fitted in very well. The cross from Hollands for the 3rd wasnt bad either. Great header too COYG
Agree with you about Daniels, it looked good on the night but even better on the replay, just needs to coach barrett now.
Phew! I listened to the game, and I thought it would not be our night after Barrett`s absolute sitter in the first half, and the Stevenage goal before Half-time.The atmosphere did sound very flat aswell in the first half.Credit though for a quick response in the second half where they said Mousinho was fouled in the area, and it was a penalty. You would bet your house on Kedwell scoring a penalty, and he didn`t disappoint again (give him a new deal). We seemed to be right up for it and five minutes later we took the lead when Daniels shot inside the area to put us ahead. The lead didn`t last long as they equalised seven minutes later.Credit to the players though who seemed to keep at it from what I heard on Gillsplayer and the fans were responding to this aswell.Mousinho got the winner against his old club as what usually happens, from Hollands freekick in the 79th minute.Great noise came across from the fans when we scored, relief that we were heading for three big points. It was really nervy listening for the last eleven minutes with Stevenage coming close a few times. It was great when the whistle went that we secured three big points. With tougher games to come this was a big win for us last night, and it puts us up to 16th in the table. It would have been nice to get 4-6 points from the two home games, but three is just off what I expected and we`re in a decent position.Tonight must have been the first time we have come from behind for more than a year and win? The last one I can remember off the top of my head was the 5-4 Hereford game.
