After much heated discussion and comments the past few days, it's made me think: What does it take to truly be considered a real Celtic fan? Do you have to go to a set number of games per season? Are those that move abroad for work etc really lesser fans than those that actively refuse better opportunities because it means they'll see less of Celtic? Have any of you ever bought fake merchandise from street traders because it was cheaper, thus nullifying your 'true' supporter status? Have any of you ever put your families first, or are they fully aware that when it comes down to a family funeral or seeing The Mighty Hoops play, that you'll maybe just catch up with them after at the Wake? Do any of you like a finger up the bum? Are we all just armchair fans who can never know what it feels like to be a Super Fan, or do we just have our priorities sorted? Or am i just a beelin' spastic who's bitten the bait by The Fenian Medro?
You picked me up wrong yesterday , I know I am in lucky position with an understanding family to get to the games .Anybody that supports us is a good guy in my books. Back in 90's celtic played a friendly in Birmingham on a Saturday , the night of my parents silver wedding meal 15/20 people, it got changed to the Friday night so I was off on the bus to Birmingham at 5 am next morning.Another time the wife wanted to go to Blackpool for September weekend , went Thursday / friday and came up the road Saturday morning , in nice time for a few pints before the game .
My current situation is : Scot living in the US. Share Holder Celtic TV Subscriber 4am/6:30am weekend wake up to watch the games. (12:30 / 3pm GMT kick offs) iPad with my brothers SkyGO and a proxy account to watch CL games at while im at work. Rarely purchase merchandise now, books and dvds only. And SuperHooper can suck my left sack if he thinks i aint a real fan/supporter of my club!
That's fair enough Harry, I know you're a good guy and it's not a bad thing to be a dedicated fan You're lucky your wife is so understanding - my bird HATES football. I love playing it and I love watching it, but as I've gotten older - and with some of the petty **** that comes with the OF (although the banter is second to none) - I found myself becoming less arsed about actually going out of my way to go to Celtic games and in turn chose to watch them in the pub, at a mate's or at home. I enjoy hearing anyone's opinion who professes to be a Celtic fan, especially in person. If they'd been to one solitary game it wouldn't bother me. I'd just be happy they weren't a hun
Same here. When my pops passed away, my brother and I got his shares split between us and added to the wee number we already had. Still got them too I'm in Dubai so 4 hours ahead, meaning CL games are on 'til 2am but it's good to watch weekend matches at 4pm to 7pm depending on time. My boss is a good guy - signed '67 replica shirt on the office wall - so turning up late after a CL game isn't frowned upon. I can appreciate the effort you go to in getting up for them.
Thankfully I am the IT department in the company i work for, so having gadgets and toys all over my office, with stuff streaming is kinda expect/accepted. I just ignore all IT requests between 11am - 1pm on CL Tues/Weds. Kinda like tomorrow (today UK time) for the Milan game.
i fail to believe that anyone is not a real celtic fan simply because they do not go every week and therefore their opinion is null and void. it is an absolute nonsense. I grew up in England so going every week was never an option for me. I now live in Australia so I am limited to solely what i see on tv or a stream given that setanta would rather show wigan v brighton than celtic v aberdeen i regularly watch midweek games before work which means getting up at half 3 or half 2 depending on daylight saving I once bought a snide shirt in thailand which was almost identical to the real thing but I have a long held belief that football kits are for weans and adults need to give themselves a shake if they wear them I also believe that family are far more important than a football team and you should never ever put football before family (although I once had a huge row with the mrs as she organised a family lunch (her family) whilst we were back from the Isle of man at the same time as a celtic rangers game. (gus poyet throwing coat off level of beel that day)
I work 2 miles away from the Knew Camp and pass it at least once a week. I went many games as a kid with my Granda or Uncle and my cousin, who to this day, is the biggest Celtic fan I know. I even went to Brian McClair's testimonial at Old Trafford just so I could get a few days of school. #ftp
Even today my daughter has a made up dentist appiotment to get her out school early today , so her mum and dad can get to the pub earlier this afternoon!!! Honest not my idea , all the family go to champion league games , bus is 4.45
To make the game I can kind of understand here, but to get to the pub???? I'd rather miss the start of a game than lie for my daughter to get out of school so I can go get pissed
More time for tea, I know it sounds bad , but the last two games have been a bit of a rush , as i said not my idea
I'm from Ireland, now live in Bristol. Used to go to quite a few games, not really been for a few years. Been to many many CL away games. In more recent years would rather spend lots on one/two away European trips than 5 or 6 trips to Glasgow. Have a young family so would rather spend my time and money on them than football. So dont even really bother with the pub to watch games now - would rather watch at home with them. Maybe when my sons a wee bit older will start taking him to games more frequently. But for now I quite like watching them on the telly from the comfort of my own home. You get a different perspective watching at the games, but that is countered by the perspective you get from the ability to see replays etc. I dont like to miss games, but if my daughter needs taking to ballet lessons then would much rather spend time with her seeing her enjoy herself than tell her no so I can watch millionaires kick a ball around
