I'm certainly going to put more effort in & post more. Tbh - not living in Hull anymore, its easy to think other peoples views have more validity. Plus- the grammer police REALLY prevent me from posting!!
It can be helpful to remember that on the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog, so the petty comments shouldn't really.... Wait a minute, I'll be back. There's a bastard cat in me garden.
Great question. It brought me out of the woodwork. I've been going to City for 50 years. For me, being a fan means getting behind the team. I like to support the team noisily at games and join in the chanting and where possible I like to stand. From that point of view I much prefer the away games. However, to address the thread, I suppose if I wanted to explain my lack of posts it could be summed up in, 'Two ears and one mouth'. I like to listen to the debates until they become too personal between the posters. I then lose interest and move onto the next thread that interests me. I realise that I'm a bit of an enigma, quiet on the board but noisy at the game but that's just the way I am. Perhaps it's the beer at games that makes me more verbal. So can I suggest a free pint of beer for each contribution......... Perhaps not.
Welcome aboard. With half a century in, you'll have some good stuff for the nostalgia threads. There's a few on here that'll have common memories, and they rarely if ever get into pissing contests.
I posted for the first time ever over last weekend and got quite a bit of abuse and said I wouldn't post again! But just had to answer to this! I have been reading this forum for a number of years - since when it was with the BBC but only decided to join last weekend but as I said the abuse I got had put me off! I used to really enjoy reading the posts - especially when such as the supporters from other teams came on. (Leicester supporters especially!!) but it has got quite boring of late!! By the way the person stating more females should post - I am female!!
I post on interesting threads/ threads I know summit about or when I'm trying to be funny. Or when I get fuming about something and act like i'm not. Off for a dump.
Sometimes timing can be an issue. I think you appeared just as a wum had been banned again, so I'd guess some assumed you were that poster reincarnate.
Female here as well. I suspect although some posters may say more women would be welcome on here I doubt in reality many men really take our views on football as seriously as theirs.
I think many of us don't take anybody's views as seriously as our own. I can't speak for everyone, but I don't treat views any differently no matter where they're from. Most of the time I wouldn't know anyway. You'll get some banter about being female I suspect, but the main supermod on the site is a female, so you'll have a powerful ally.
True even my other half thinks I know jack **** about football even though I first went over 40 years ago at the same time as I was scoring goals myself in the ten foot!!!
Just had a look, but simply posh isn't on line or I'd have asked her over to have a chat with you and hopefully tell you about the female experience on messageboards. I think the fact she's very well respected across the network, and I've never heard anyone question her being a supermod, should point to women being respected on here.
Offside is when the ball is played forward, and the receiving player is in front of/behind (whichever way you'd look at it) one, or both of the two opposition players closest to their goal line/byline at the time of the pass.
Don't mind banter about female. I suspect most women have bigger balls than most men anyway. Metaphorically speaking of course. I'm sure like me you know more than your fair share about football It's me I have arrived. I was talking about the upcoming game a few weeks ago at work to a man and after we had finished he said 'you know quite a bit about football don't you, I mean for a woman'! Doh! Break the mould eh!
Thanks for that. I will watch out for that on Sunday. I usually just go to watch the fitties in the shorts.
Another long time lurker here. I've always found this site and the old 606 before, the best way to find out about hull city info, news and gossip. Especially helped over the last couple of years since I moved to New Zealand. I like listen to the debates that go on and to see what other fans views are on things, but by the time I get to the end of a thread, someone has already said what I would have to say so I don't bother. Also the personal attacks and name calling which most threads seems to descend into nowadays does put me off too, as I can be bothered getting involved in all that. Since I have posted on this thread I may try and contribute a bit more in the future.
