Afternoon all - hope you have had a good day :)

Can somone help out an old timer here with this newfangled betting exchange thing?

Invictus for example, quoted at 7-1 on bookie sites, and in Oddschecker it shows as 65/9 for Betfair, which seems to be a shade over 7-1. However when I access Betfair, which I admittedly have only used a few times, the "back" price shows as 2.64 ..... is that 2.64 to 1? Which seems unlikely, but can't find any other answer to it?

The back price is indeed the price at which you'd back the horse, as opposed to the lay price where you're betting on the horse to lose (as a bookie does). The odds you quote are decimal odds, therefore to convert to fractional odds you should take 1 from that. So 2.64 on betfair is 1.64/1 as a fraction. However, the market on betfair will not have any liquidity in it at this stage, so the price will settle much closer to that offered by bookmakers as more liquidity enters the market.

Reebok, I have just checked your specific example and you have accessed the TBP (To Be Placed) market on betfair rather than the win market, where the horse is priced 8.6 ish i.e. 7.6/1

Yet Oddschecker quotes the Betfair price as 65/9, which is clearly a close match to the generally offered bookie price of 7-1 so why the discrepency?

I'm not going to take 1.64-1 therefore - nor would anyone else I would imagine!

Ahh ok - I'll go back and look a bit more closely! I assume this is a setting to be changed then, yes?

See my post above, you're on the place market as opposed to the win market.

No, when you access the specific market you'll find Hennesy Gold Cup and Henessy Gold Cup TBP, you just need to select the first Hennesy Gold Cup for the win market.

Just noticed that Bostons Angel has now moved to David Pipe - entered in the Becher Chase so probably angling him at the Grand National. Interesting. Very interesting.
