Hoffenheim were about mid-table too though. Garcia went to Athletico madrid, Crouch went to Pompey who at the time were not too bad. Where did Bellamy go? Was it WHU?
Babel shows moments of brilliance, remember his goal in the CL against Chelsea I think it was where he took it down and lashed it into the top corner from 30 yards? Unfortunately, those moments of brilliance came after 5 or 6 anonymous games.
Petr Cech never gets beaten from distance It was more 35-40 yards and fairly central (**** quality but still shows it)
Watching that, it's less impressive from what I remember I've just going to stick with the version in my head that went into the top corner on it's own and not from Cech's attempted save
I want to say he scored some 11 goals? I remember when he was sold he kind of hit out at Rafa that he had a good first season but then got the cold shoulder and could never build on it.
He got ten. four in the league, one in FA Cup and five in Europe. He did hit out at Rafa. I always thought a front two of Torres and Babel would have been scary but hindsight suggests otherwise since we now know Torres can't play in a partnership and Babel was just as **** up top
I remember those old discussions. Similar to the Johnson at RW, a lot of theories on why it would have worked but again hindsight shows why it didn't/wouldn't.
I can't remember taking part in any discussions about it on here (well, original 606) but I probably wasn't on there then.
Babel always had so much potential, but he spent too much time on Twitter building up his brand.
t-rex, sums Babel up perfectly in one clip, could score quality goals but then he would go and do what he did with that free kick, bit like Garcia, never knew what you would get. at least he didn't shhh anyone or cost £20 mill.
Rafa used Babel as an impact sub during his early years and he was good IMO - scored goals, attacked well. However, he just wasn't good enough to be starting every game and he would go missing. Confidence went down and then his performances as the impact sub declined. Such a shame because he was a top class talent but with a poor attitude. Who would I want between him and Downing? Babel by far. Babel wasn't afraid to get the ball and try things. Someone above made a great point - Babel looked poor in what was one of our best squads in recent times. Downing was just sh*T in of our worst squads.
this is all well and good but lets be frank also. every player on the "sold to crap team" list should never have signed for lfc at all and most lfc fans were hating the fact they were coming day one. its only inevitable a bad stupid buy ends up returning to the level they should have always been at so i blame entirely the buying policy not the selling one.
So I did this thread almost a month ago and came across an article on it..... http://espnfc.com/blog/_/name/liverpool/id/2108?cc=5901
