During an interview with Ole in his homeland, the experienced centre-half has reiterated his desire to return to his roots in the near future.

Coloccini openly admitted during the last winter transfer window that he was keen to head back to San Lorenzo - the club he supported as a child and one he spent a brief loan spell with in 2000/01.

No deal was put in place at that time, with Newcastle unwilling to let the 31-year-old break his contract.

That would appear to still be the case, with Alan Pardew aware of Coloccini's importance to the Magpies' cause, but the Argentina international is refusing to give up on his dream switch.

Fabricio Coloccini told Ole: "You never know what can happen in football.

"In January we did all we could for a possible return to San Lorenzo, but I always made it clear that Newcastle would have the last word.

"The club have invested a lot in me and I must show respect towards them.

"I have to speak the truth, though, and I would like to return as early as possible."

I don't think this is news to anyone. All we ask for is full commitment and that's what we'll get. And still, it all depends on whether San Lorenzo can come up with the money. Either that or they wait another 2 and a half years.

Aye basically same old same old. At least the lad is honest and gives 100%. I think he will be here till the end of next season at which point our demands will drop significantly. Into his fifth year with us, that's a long time at any club these days. He'll be missed of course.

    Again?

It doesn't help the team or the fans to hear how desperately their captain wants to go. Better to say nothing and make his plans in private. This public whinging is demoralising.

I'll be devastated. It was Coloccini that led me to Newcastle United. Now I'm a dyed-in-the-wool fan, but it will be very strange without him.

I'll be crying into my Brown Ale during every Colo-less game, but no way am I abandoning NUFC for San Lorenzo!!

I don't think I'll abandon NUFC for San Lorenzo either. It's a bit far to go for 90 minutes.

Thing is, we know what the Argie press are like. This could have been blown far out of proportion.

Not surprised I will wish him well when he moves on, he's been a star at SJP.

Pards should speak to Colo about this, if he actually said that make Tiote the permanent Captain.

So transfer window is coming up and this starts up again ,he clearly doesn't want to be here I'd let him go as it is just going to keep cropping up and be yet another distraction I'd also keep tiote as captain from now on

You haven't seen the tripe American sports columnists/reporters spout I presume?

I can't believe some of them can write some nonsense stories that have zero truth, and just run away with that story that they created, to stir up controversy. By doing so, over time people forget that this was just cooked up by the reporter and had zero truth in it, so you could say he succeeded(but still, <doh>)

Been to America a few times, read the papers first hand, although they mainly cover the basketball, baseball. boxing, ice hockey and soccer as they call it last of all.

Tiote has made a good job as captain, I would keep him there.
