Clichy makes far too many mistakes and has not shown any improvement for a few seasons now.
He seems a nice bloke, the last of the "Invincibles", but these two things should not cloud judgement. We need a better left back, Clichy is poor defensively and also does not contribute enough in attacking areas (2 goals in 6 years, and I doubt many more assists).

I'd not be devastated if he were to leave. He's an average squad player at best and too error-prone for my liking. In an ideal world we'd strengthen with Baines or someone of his standard and have Clichy as a back-up but I can't see that happening.

I imagine it'd be closer to £8-10m if we sold him.

I can see your points but I think my point is more about how all the talk is about players leaving us rather than about players coming in!

It does seem that way, but behind the scenes it is very different (I hope). At the end of the day we do need to have a clear out, Bendtner and Denilson look certain to go, wouldn't cry to see Clichy go, and I for one do not think Cesc and Samir leaving will be the end of Arsenal.

We need a new mentality, we need fresh hope, a new style of play.
The way we play now is built around Cesc. Maybe seeing him leave will see a new style, in the same way as Vieira and Henry leaving left the team built around Cesc.

I can't wait to get rid of that waste of space Bendtner and as for Denilson...don't get me started. I would bet my house on Cesc leaving for Barca this summer (more news today from Pique on goal.com). But I was hoping Nasri could be the rock on which we build when Cesc leaves and when I heard all the United rumors I almost fell off my chair. I am a big fan of how Arsene has managed the club (being one of the most financially successful clubs whilst playing the prettiest football) BUT now is the time for winning things and we can't be so cautious in the transfer market - we need to hold on to our stars and spend big on the right players. Even as an Arsene fan if we do not win anything next year even I will be thinking about calling for a change - I just hope we do win something.

I would be happy to see him leave, squeeze as much out of liverpool as possible for a defender who can't defend/cross/pass/header

I would be very happy to see Clichy leave. The error prone numpty has cost us time and time again. I lost count of the times he played someone onside through utter stupidity.

yep lets strengthen someone whose looking to get back into the top 4 and possibly cause us huge problems

And notice Clichys problems coincide with Arshavin being infront of him and the change of formation leaving him more exposed
put him at liverpool and he'll shine, and you'll probably be saying how good his crossing now is with gerrard, suaraz kuyt and carrol in the box instead of walcott and RVP

I think you guys will regret it if he goes. Especialy as you'll likely get little for him.

Have to agree with bow4fowler I would love us to sign him. He has been a great player for you. He's well balanced, may not be the very best going forward may not be the very best defender, but he is good at both roles and is the kind of consistent player any top side needs.

Whilst we do need to sell players like Clichy, Denilson, etc. I think its ridiculous that we are sending them straight to our rival clubs.

You'll never be able to afford Baines. Chelsea and City will price both his asking price and his salary out of the market.

You still don't get, do you? You slag-off your own players, rather than the coaching abilities of your aging manager, and arrogantly believe that you can simply upgrade. Well, no, you can't. Get rid of Clichy and you had better have someone in the lower ranks to replace him.

As I have said in a number of threads already, your club is in big trouble. Mark my words.

Raphael Varane from Lens? He is a CB, so how does that relate to Clichy definitely going?

Or is there another Varane we are after?

As much as I have seen and heard he has only played centre back and in a holding position in midfield. Could be wrong (Im not a French football expert).

Oh really and how is that? We consistently finish in the top 4 and have a sound economic position. Yes some players are leaving but no one irreplaceable.

You are way overrating how bad he is in my opinion. Most of the time he is positionally sound and not a liability. Don't get me wrong I still think he should be sold but that doesn't mean he has always been bad for us in the past few seasons.
