There is very little crime in the neighbourhood I live in, and my immediate neighbours are absolutely great...It would take a hell of a lot to get me to move away from where I am now..

Well it could be that, or it could perhaps be that I have a vicious rottweiler living with me, otherwise known as our lass..<laugh>

VJ, I love the pubs in York but have noticed over the years that the people are less friendly, courteous etc. Having said that we from Sunderland have a bad reputation down there for being loud and brashy.

Back to the post I live in Sunderland near the Crematorium Arms or The Wavendon to give it its proper name. Lived in Sunderland all my life so not like some of our exotic posters on here living in nice warm climes.

Doesn't matter where you live, the post was about the people you live near too. York people are ****, mouthy, full of attitude but when the tempers flare, run like ****e. Good for making a mess of making choclate and good for **** all else..<ok>

Quite decent where I live. All neighbours get on well, still have chats over the garden fence etc. Thankfully no tossers, chavs etc. We do in Sunderland, like everywhere else, have our fair share of muppets causing bother.

I live in a fairly decent area of Farnborough Hants. After spending 23 years in the service, mostly in the South East and having met my beautiful wife (who is from this area) i decided to settle down here and if i am honest its one of the best decisions I have ever made. Saying that, a toss up between Easington Colliery and Farnborough; no ****ing contest. Talking about my neighbours is quite funny as the ones on the right of me have been living there about 6 years and I have never had a decent conversation with them, only to say the polite hello. However the neighbours on the left of me are just an amazing bunch of people. Same age-ish with 2 young lads (I have a young 10 year old daughter). He supports Arsenal and we made the trip up in February to watch the lads v the Arse and he was overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone he managed to meet. We are great mates , drinking buddies and basically we are a lucky family having such great people living next to us.

I've lived in a few different spots, and now in the outskirts of Helsinki - Nuottaniemi, Espoo.
A few expats around us, but mostly locals who are friendly enough. Quite a few get chatty on the dog walk, always pleasant and say Hi, some moreso than others so no difference there. Some look/are **** scared - which I think is the dog's fault! We used to have 2, which would be quite scary for anyone who didn't know them. I travel a lot with work so ingratiating into Finnish society generally has been a bit more challenging as they can be quite an austere lot, esp the blokes.

But once you earn their trust, they open up a bit more and have a fairly dark & dry sense of humour which often resonates with back home. The women/girls are usually really chatty/funny and more willing to engage in conversation, but maybe that's just coz I'm a handsome bastard. I actually enjoy doing the shopping as the girls working their are always dead friendly and helpful - the Mrs don't mind, she just laughs and sends me off with the saturday shopping list. salt of the earth that she is.

    I'm now living in Woking.

I have met a few Sunderland lads round here & even have a 5-a-side team full of mackems!

Woking is a funny place....it has it's affluent areas but it also has it's ex-London resident overflow areas so is gradually turning to ****!

Anyways, if there's any lads on here in the Surrey/Woking area that fancy a kick about/going to Sunderland games/meeting up with fellow mackems for a drink then let me know.

I lived down there for quite a few years, firstly Addlestone, then Chertsey. There was always a load of mackems working down there.

I'm now in Westgate on Sea in sunny Kent. Been around and moved about a bit but not moving again , it's too bloody stressful.

The pub I use is frequented by a load of exiled Brummies so there's lots of good banter with the WBA and Villa lads. There's only one other Mackem in there so we take a bit of flack , but we do dish a lot out as well.

Three miles along the coast is Margate. A proper **** hole full of failed Cockneys who all love jellied eels and Millwall. If all these Millwall fans got together and went to matches , Millwall would need a bigger stadium than Man U.

At work I was introduced to a young lad who supports the lads. He lives in Folkestone and is a season ticket holder. After nightshifts on Friday night he's straight on the train up to the SOL and comes home Sunday afternoon. Canny lad with it.

He was there later than that , probably late 90s early 2000s . If you'd met him you'd remember him , he's about 6 foot 6 and built like a bull. Gentle giant.
