After all the barracking the lad Broad has had from the papers, public and anything vaguely Australian best way for him to answer the taunts, them Aussies don't like it up em! Bah!
Shame England sort of let it slip in the final session, though credit to Haddin and Johnson for staging a recovery. Defo England's (and Broad's in particular ) day, having lost the toss. When will cricket Australia learn not to try and intimidate Broad and or Pietersen. It will invariably come back to bite them on the ass
I find it amusing that they dislike him for acting like an Aussie and refusing to walk! You couldn't make it up!
Absolutely brilliant stuff from Broad, could have hardly scripted it much better for him - have some of that you Aussie bastards! Some of the stuff their press has been coming out with has been disgraceful as well, I thought our red tops are bad but they never stoop to the depths we've seen from their counterparts down under. And they think it's actually going to work and get under our skin? Looks like it's coming back to bite them on the ass so far, now we just need KP to bosh a big ton tonight to really shove it up em
On a true pitch, batting first, a team would have to be looking for 400+ on first innings. The way things have gone today they won't make 300 An excellent moral victory for the tourists on the first day of an intense series , given that we lost the toss. A huge partnership tomorrow between Cook and Carberry will rub salt into the (already gaping) wound
just seen how the Brisbane Courier are dealing with tomorrow's headlines regarding "He who must not be mentioned by name coz he's a cheating Pommie bastard" please log in to view this image
this is absolutely brilliant, guess they have got to stick to their guns.... The Brisbane-based Courier Mail newspaper, which pledged not to mention Stuart Broad's name in match reports, following his refusal to walk in last summer's Ashes, referred to him in its opening updates from the first Test in Brisbane as "a 27-year-old English medium-pace bowler" and obscured his picture. You can keep up to date with all the shenanigans in our Ashes Gossip Column.
Perhaps we ought to do the same thing with the aussies. David Warner - Rotund mid order batsman with the hankering to punch young boys?
The Aussies pretty much invented not walking single handedly. With the exception of Adam Gilchrist they never walked unless given out. That's why it feels so damn good that Broad knew he was out and didn't walk and that won us the test. Better still the Aussies moan about it and he comes back to Ausland and skittles their entire top order cheaply.
I guess you don't remember what happened at Brisbane last time round Cromer? Didn't the Aussies post 400+ after being in even more trouble early in the innings than this time? And wasn't it Haddin who led the fight back? [Edit] Aussie first innings total was 481, but Hussey played a big part in that as well as Haddin.
Just looked it up. They added 19 for the last two wickets Did anyone else listen to the comic genius of Mitchell Johnson after close? No sense of irony when he claimed the loss of the last wicket meant they were 'slightly' behind where they wanted to be!
Although very enjoyable there is no time for any back slapping just yet! Cook and Carberry need to make a solid start to the innings and build a foundation for the more destructive KP later down the order. This Wicket will be perfect for KP if he is in good nick and I can see Rooty getting a big score as well. Who would even bet against Broady posting a decent score with the bat! The key is to to roll over the Aussies for no more that 310/320 and then bat for 2 days on a really good track. Day 4 and Swanny will come into his own as he bowls into the rough just outside off stump.
Agreed, altho I think that patience rather than brilliance will be key. Haddin showed that against the old ball if you take your time there is no need to give a single chance away (even against good bowling). If Cook or Trott are still in after about 25 overs they could bat loooong into the day.
Agreed here too JWM, so long as England get their wickets quickly tonight I think they would ideally like to bat once, remember cook's 235 not out at the Gabba last time this is a real batting track at the moment and could be perfect for our top order to get a confident start to the series. Our batsmen are a lot better as a unit than the Aussie batsmen, the fact that they under performed over the summer doesn't take anything away from the batting talent.
