Er, sorry guys I'd just got in from the England match and was feeling a bit scratchey. But for me whilst I agree that anything is better then what was there there does seem to be a theme running from the Pozzo's of doing everything on the cheap. If you go and see the Barnet stand (identical) you'll see what I mean........it's quite naff
When you look at the confines of the site there was never going to be a great architectural show piece erected. I think that to invest in anything costing £M's is taking a risk. 18 months ago the average attendance was 11-12,000 and to now have a ground holding 20,000 will be interesting to see if it can be filled. Apart from the 'special' matches attendances have never been that good since all-seater stadiums became the norm. I don't really know how it can be said that things are being done on the cheap. We have not seen a set of Pozzo accounts yet to make that judgement. The club has been losing money as long as I can remember, something that will not be allowed to continue for ever. There is a business model in place as shown by the attendances reaching 15,000 it is now possible to do something about the eyesore that was the East Side. Another 2,500 bums on seats will bring in needed revenue, but I doubt that it will pay for even a modest stand in a few years.
The person who sits next to me at work is half-Spanish and a Valencia fan. They are currently halfway through having a new stadium being built but can't afford to have it finished due to the financial situation in Spain. Compared to that, moaning about the aesthetics of the stand we've been waiting for and which we're finally going to get seems petty.
This is an interesting turn around. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/10816471.Watford_make_pre_tax_profit_of___190_000/
Taken from the WO report GG. "The additional space at the front of the stand will be used to house disabled supporters, who will enter the ground at the same south-east entrance as those who sit in the Rookery End, and potentially photographers."
Call me ungrateful, but I hate watching a game from pitch level. Once had to endure a game from the 'shallow end' of the Lower Rous. You can't see the shape of the game so easily. However beggars can't be choosers. Must say I was spoilt by the trip to Wembley.
Friendly win v Charlton. Nosworthy back with a goal.. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/10819016.Watford_beat_Charlton_3_0/?ref=rss Ikpeazu and Mensah also netted.
Noz looked very solid at the back and it was good to see him get on the score sheet. The first half was a bit disjointed and slow, but the second half was a good contest. I will pick out some of the players who caught my eye and why. Iriney- won everything and cut out countless attacks before setting us up for the counter attack. Acuña- worked tirelessly up and down the pitch and could have had a goal or two himself. Nosworthy- looked like he had never been out and a goal from a corner to boot. Mensah- showed some quick feet and good positioning. Pudil- Another outstanding performance from him continuing a run of good games Forestieri- simply did what he did at Boro. The first half was a first string team but things didnt seem quite right with them. GZ changed the whole team (Noz aside) and things started to click. As a result, this would be my team for Saturday taking into account injuries. Almunia Ekstrand Angella Cassetti(injury forced) Faraoni Murray Iriney Battochio Pudil Acuña Forestieri Subs- Bond, McGugan, Anya, Deeney, Fabbrini, Nosworthy, Belkalem(if fit)
Anya went off last night for Scotland sadly...injured by all account. The line "dis-jointed first half" sounds a bit worrying considering that is the 1st team! Great the youngsters did well (and Nosworthy) but they aren't going to be playing on Saturday as such.
Looks as if people really do want to be a part of the club. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/10822154.Almost_5_000_complete_Watford_survey/ It will be interesting to see what comes out of it.
i've been told that Belkalem is injured? for how many times will he be unavailable?is it serious? plz
I read that he was with the Algerian team but didn't play because he was suspended. No mention there of injury.
He was injured in the friendly against Charlton recently when he appeared to land awkwardly on his right ankle and had to be helped off the field onto a cart and taken away to look at it. I havent heard any more than that, but could well get some more information on friday.
AB, please don't bring your parochial bias about former Sunderland players on to this board! Nobody south of the aptly named Hetton-le-Hole cares about your petty squabbles.
