Whhooppppp, whhooop, Elland is 40 today, How are we??? Not much on the agenda today, so, lets look back through some history. On this fateful day 9 years ago, Brian Deane was the last player (apart from McCormack two weeks ago) to score four goals in one game, when Leeds thrashed QPR back in 2004... Did you also know that yesterday was the anniversary our our 4-3 away win at Southampton, when we were 3-0 down with only 20 minutes to go. An inspired substitution by Kevin Blackwell putting David Healey on, led our come back. I remember the game like it was yesterday. Here are the highlights... What is your most memorable game, and why? Have you ever got, or nearly got thrown out of a football ground? If so, we want to hear details?
Happy Birthday mate Memorable games ....... theres been so many on my watch, starting with the first time I remember hearing about Leeds Utd. I was a primary school kid and my dad was reading the paper and as I had just learned to read I read the headlines "Leeds Bury em" I asked my old man what it was about and we sat together and read the match report and Leeds had just smashed Bury 6-0 and that was when I got into it. Fooking tear to my eye now
Morning all. Already wished Elland a happy birthday. Just remembered David Healy. What an annoying **** he could be. Hit a purple patch for us then disappear for weeks. Stick a N Ireland jersey on him and he was prolific. Didn't he once finish leading scorer in Euro qualifiers or something. Career just seemed to peter out
I seem to remember them beating Spain 3-2 and Healy scored a hat trick !!! That was the time he was Euro qualifier top scorer I think.
good morning and a happy 40 I remember it well I was bought pilosan!Apparently according to the makers it fortifies the over 40s Watched the first half Smalling is no international player in my book and Cleverly is not the finished article not impressed at all how many could get into Germanies second team not many don't expect too much in Brazil
Happy birthday pal, all I remember about my first match was my uncle mick getting nicked and my mum picking me up from the police station I think it was 79 !! Could be wrong tho addled memory an all that !!!
The next home league game after he did that was a very good 3-2 win against a strong Brum team with John Carver in as caretaker manager. I was with the match sponsors that day and it was my brothers 21st. We've always loved Shaun Derry and to this day he remains one of my favorite players of all time whilst yet again he was man of the match for us that day. However, following the exploits of the week before for NI (and I think he did score a brace - with one being a penalty in the Brum game) he nudged me to go with Healy so we could meet him. To cut a story short it still eats away at me to this day that we chose Healy as MOTM instead of Dezza. Although later on I did have the pleasure of a brief meeting with him at Thorpe Arch I still feel we cheated him out of his Champagne that day. I still look back fondly on the front four we had of Cresswell, Hulse, Blake and Healy...
Thinking about the the Krauts beating England, made me glad none of these twats were around in 1940. Back then everything they threw at us was kicked back at them and then we finished up winning in the end. Manager Churchill would have gotten the sack if he had to rely on this load of useless notworldclass players.
Elland as its your birthday, do you think you are lucky? If so can you have a bet on a very difficult fixture list this weekend. We need Blackburn to beat Reading, Bournmouth to beat Derby, Ipswich to beat Leicester, Us to beat Midds, Barnsley to beat Forest, Charlton to beat QPR and Bolton to beat Watford. ONLY THEN WOULD WE SLIP INTO 6TH SPOT IN THE LEAUGE.
Theres only one important one there Doc. Wont be any use in getting the others all correct if we don't win. I think we will though and then we will have a little momentum going
Morning all, Happy Birthday Elland mate Looking forward to getting back to some football at the weekend, haven't enjoyed the internationals very much!
