I have to be honest with Willo and say, he's starting to win me round, he really is.
Whilst I don't think he is a long term prospect for us, he's certainly knuckling down and really stepping up to the mark.
Well done Willo. People get judged on the pitch and right now you are quite rightly keeping your place in the starting 11.

Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson is grateful to Alan Pardew for handing him his big chance in Newcastle United’s back four

Mike Williamson has revealed he is grateful to Alan Pardew for handing him his big chance in Newcastle United’s back four.

The Magpies defender admits that Fabricio Coloccini is likely to be back in the side sooner rather than later.

But is enjoying his fine rapport with ex-Montpellier defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.

The former Torquay United man said today: “We’ve been defending from the front as a unit.

“Me and Mapou indvidually I think we’ve both played well but it has been a collective effort.

“It’s what the manager is striving for, that consistency.”

Williamson is delighted that United have managed back to back clean sheets and knows that it could be the bedrock to success this term.

Williamson, who must wait to see if he retains his place against Norwich City on Saturday, said: “We know we’ve got players in the team offensively that can break defences.

“It’s the other side we have to work on.

“That’s what we have been doing.”

And when asked if he expected to keep his place in the side, Williamson said: “I’m just grateful to get the opportunity.

“As long as the results keep coming like the last couple of weeks, I’m sure he’ll keep the same.

“That’s testament to the manager that he keeps going with a winning formula.”

However, Argentine international Coloccini will be available for Saturday’s clash with the Canaries.

Williamson said: “The jerseys are there to be won.

“Colo is a world class player and we’ll see on Saturday to know.

“But it will only be a matter of time before he gets back in.

“He’s a fantastic leader around the changing room but it will change from one week to the next.”

I think Colo will have to wait. Only the right back alot should be open to question barring any injuries. Anita or Colo is good for me.

Willo deserves huge praise. He was shot confidence wise last year and to be honest was pretty poor. He couldn't pass the ball and was lumping it in panic. Now he seems to have brought some assurity and he himself has improved. His passing has been much better. He and Padew deserve praise for the turnaround.

He's just got that bit of confidence that was missing.

It was always there, it's just taken a bit of time to come out.

While I'm as pleased as anyone that he's doing well, and it's nice he's getting some recognition around here, something tells me the very moment he makes a mistake he'll get dumped on again by fans.
