No Refs is the way forward, just make the game run under an honours system where players have to call the fouls/throw ins/pens etc. Surely modern day footballers would be up for this. Salt of the earth.
I don't think its a good idea, that the manager standing in the dug out can make up to two claims per half. Standing pitch side near half way line is a very bad place to make calls . I noticed that no masons are allowed to be involved in judging the Hillsborough inquest . I would seriously think that masons play a greater role in Scottish life than English and I would suggest that no masons should be involved in the control of Celtic matches . I think with that been the case , I would be happy to leave the game in the hands of the traditional man in middle and two assistants . The big problem I have with referees an assistants in Scotland is that with the majority , I know as soon as they come out on the field that they have given us no fair play previously and I am expecting the worse .
He could be getting advice from one of his coaching staff also watching the game in a box and communicating via an ear piece. Never gonna happen, but seems the easiest way to solve the problems of game changing decisions relegating clubs, knocking them out of comps, costing promotion/titles etc.
You will never stop wrong decisions in football matches even with the latest use of cameras and technology . I have watched Rugby and GAA matches using cameras and technology and still getting decisions wrong . If we are giving teams two calls Per half , why not , three four or more. In any case the next thing there will be a transfer market with the "coaches making the best calls " been signed by the clubs with the most money . Doesn't seem fair to me .
Obviously you aren't gonna move to a point where the game is played without error. But if we can move a step closer to not having these contentious decision costing clubs millions (in some cases) then it's definitely a step in the right direction. Some of the top of my head that would have been obvious to challenge: the penalty call v Juve in his first CL campaign, or the non penalty v Rangers where the ref apologized afterwards and the behind the back penalty at CP. Chuck sent off for NOT head butting Laffatme, Henry against Ireland, Maradona v England, Lampards goal v Germany. (not saying you would care or not about the non Celtic ones) All these things, while making great talking points, have cost clubs and countries huge in revenue/honors. All for the sake of not taking 30sec - 1 min out to have someone look at a monitor to decide yes or no! 2 challenges per half seems about right, you dont want to slow the game completely, but you also need to give the managers the choice of challenge or not. Transfer market for managers who make good challenges? Dont think its gonna make any difference, managers are hired based on results, the only way that it would improve his credentials is to have almost every challenge result in him winning the game. Just the fact that people are discussing this, shows that something (maybe not my idea) NEEDS to be done!
C3ltic , I think if you have competent fair referees , justice and fair play will emerge . The reason the penalty wasn't given against Juventus is because the referees in Champions League games feel that if they give contentious decisions against one of the big teams from a big football nation , their career in Champions League refereeing will be all but over. Decisions against Celtic in Scottish Football have mostly if not all made by the Freemasions with the interest of fellow Freemasons at heart. We can employ all the latest equipment possible but , if the people making the decisions are not fair and impartial then nothing will change . I remember Celtic fans at the outset of TV life broad castings saying that would be the end of referee bias . Nothing could be further from the truth . We all saw the behaviour of MCCoist and several Rangers players a few years ago , in what was called Scotland 's game of shame . All clearly seen , no Rangers punishment .
