Strange one, where do you draw the line? What if it landed by the halfway line and the wind was slowly edging it towards goal?

If the keeper is there to save it then fair enough.

i played in a sunday league game once when a player took a penalty in normal time, it hit the post, come back to him and he tapped it in, the goalie hadn't touched it. Anyway, the ref disallowed it, said if another player had tapped it in then fine, but not the person who took the penalty as he'd basically set himself up (via the post), still don't know to this day the ruling on that...:emoticon-0112-wonde

The ref was very right to do that, I ref occasionally and that is a little known rule that after the kick someone else has to touch the ball before the penalty taker.

just chipping in guys, the line in which a penalty kick in a shootout is drawn is when the original momentum of the ball stops, thats when it is counted as a miss, and obviously when it crosses the line, that is counted as a goal.

the original momentum can count as any kind of rebounds, deflections etc from objects of the environment deemed as "in play" until the ball stops or is given a new momentum, i.e a player kicking it again.

    edit: hope this makes sense

I don't think that rule is little known (you obviously can't run it in to the net), I think people just overlook it. If I was the taker I'd find it instinctive to slam home the rebound.
