Head coach admits midfielder will leave permanently in January. Neil Kilkenny has more than likely played his last game for City, according to Sean OâDriscoll. The midfielder today joined Preston North End on loan until January 5th and the head coach revealed his departure is set to become permanent in the New Year â whether to Deepdale or elsewhere. Kilkenny will team up with his former Leeds United manager Simon Grayson in the North West. âI think itâs been well documented that I felt I couldnât use him as part of the squad, so Iâm trying to do the same as with Liam Fontaine and get him some games somewhere,â OâDriscoll told Bristol City Player. âPreston has come up and Neil obviously knows Simon from his Leeds days, so itâs a good move for him and gets his career back on track.â When asked what would happen to the money saved by freeing up some of the Australianâs wages, the boss admitted the club are set to agree a private settlement with the player. âWeâre in the throes of trying to do a deal on Neilâs contract in the January window, so that looks like it will happen," he continued. âThat will be after his loan, so his contract will be cancelled. Something might pop up at Preston if he can force his way in to Simonâs team, but if not at least it puts him in the shop window.â http://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/article/20131114-odriscollonkilkenny-1176067.aspx We are buying out his contract, more bloody money down the drain, at least we will see the back of him..
Yet when SOD arrived he made it quite clear he rated NK and he was a big part of his plans............
Can't say I'm surprised. It's the same with Fontaine. When the fans turn against you it's near impossible to put your best performance in, and it'll affect the other players perception of you. Kilkenny will probably do a good job under a different manager. I don't think he's a bad player, just wasn't particularly a good player for us.
Instead of paying him off in January at least use the first week to see if a club will take him for free to save us paying him off to then join a team as a free agent. The problem you have is that you can only play two centre midfielders (excluding the wide players and JET who play in front of the two) and we have a long list for those two spots: Neil Kilkenny Bobby Reid Jordan Wynter Stephen Pearson (when fit) Marlon Pack Marvin Elliott Simon Gillett That is a lot of competition to be paying Kilkenny the wages he is on not to play as first choice selection is between Pack, Reid or Elliott with Gillett now in on loan and Wynter has looked good so I'm surprised Kilkenny hasnt gone earlier. I do also think Pearson will be gone by the summer as well as he must be a high earning Scot from the McInnes days.
Kilkenny won't be decent anywhere - he's no more a team player than fly. All he does is moan, wave his arms in disgust and then moan again. Any team I played in someone would have slapped him - he'd would have never done it twice. Hate the little fu**er. ps - I don't believe SOD's version why he didn't play Kilkenny. SOD realised, eventually, that Kilkenny was useless. Took me and RODney 5 minutes !
Leeds fans said that he would sit in front of the back four. Pass everything sideways and wave his arms a lot- Derby fans gave us warnings about Fielding. Makes you wonder why we still go ahead and buy such players
Pearson will be out longer than Liam Kelly, who will definitely be a first choice the rest will be fighting for one spot. 100% agree with you, I'm going for a lay down never ever thought I would say that
