I'm currently doing a project on the swans for my work at University and i was hoping that you guys could provide me with some primary data to use in the core of my work. I would be really grateful if i could get opinions on: 1.) Do you feel by now that you would class the Liberty stadium as "home" to the swans and why? 2.) Do you see going to swans game as a "ritual" or do you have any other rituals before/during/after games? (if there's anyone who hasn't missed a game in so many years etc i would love to use you as an example) 3.) Do you have any swans memorabilia ( it can even be something as small as a ticket stub), if so what and why is it important to you? Thanks so much in advance for any help recieved. Matthew
Your best bet is to ask a poster called FFS, I am informed he is the expert here and that Mark Gower is his favourite player sir.
1: Yes the Liberty is home because the Vetch, whilst holding some very fond memories ain't there any more. 2: No ritual for me. It's just a footie game but I'm sure others disagree. 3: I have a signed football from years ago when I did a corporate thing at the Vetch. The meal was soggy pie and mash. It was vile. But the players were gracious and welcoming. Can't remember who was in that team but I remember Matthew Bound being there. Good luck with the dissertation.
1.) Do you feel by now that you would class the Liberty stadium . it's getting there but you couldn't beat the intimacy of the Vetch which has now been replaced by rows of seats and stewards 2.) Do you see going to swans game as a "ritual" or do you have any other rituals before/during/after games? (if there's anyone who hasn't missed a game in so many years etc i would love to use you as an example) I'm not sure but I buy a programme ever game then put it away unread and would feel lost without one 3.) Do you have any swans memorabilia ( it can even be something as small as a ticket stub), if so what and why is it important to you? Can I sell you a shirt ? , I'm a sucker for the badge therefore anything with it on becomes an object of desire .programmes , ticket stubs .
1) The Liberty Stadium is clearly "home" to The Swans' now, which they share with The Osprey's Rugby team. As Knackered has already pointed out the Vetch Field is no more, other than for the memories that are deeply ingrained into one's psyche, well, into mine,at least. 2)My "ritual" at The Vetch was a pint or two in The Badminton;a Hansen's pie;find a programme seller;grab a quick pee in the most disgusting toilets this side of The Suez, and then squeeze my way through the crowd on the North Bank. When attendances dropped,no squeezing was necessary,I just strolled into the ground, and sometimes was even able to sit down on the concrete terracing. 3)I used to have a vast collection of football programmes, mostly Swansea ones,of course. When I moved out to Africa, they all went with me in my container. Down the years, the humidity took it's toll, until eventually the termites forced their way into my store, and destroyed the lot. Good luck with your dissertation.
What happened to that girl that was doing a study of the Swansea not606 board? She was a friend of Scottswan. Said she would let us all see it when she'd finished.

I would be really grateful if i could get opinions on: 1.) Do you feel by now that you would class the Liberty stadium as "home" to the swans and why? Yes the Liberty feels like home as like football life moves on and the vetch was old and decrepit. I have had some of my best memories at the vetch and have got some good ones already at the liberty. I do think the liberty should have a section for standing though but i can't see that ever happening. 2.) Do you see going to swans game as a "ritual" or do you have any other rituals before/during/after games? (if there's anyone who hasn't missed a game in so many years etc i would love to use you as an example Football is a pastime a hobby that i enjoy and take an interest in, I never put my family second but they know how much i enjoy watching the swans and rarely do the both clash and if they do then family first every time.,.I have probably missed no more than 15 games since the early 60's. 3.) Do you have any swans memorabilia ( it can even be something as small as a ticket stub), if so what and why is it important to you? God i have so much memorabilia collected by me or given by friends and family that its too much to mention..
1) Yes it's home. That said, with the noise our lot make, anywhere would be home. No stadium will ever match the vetch though. 2) Every game I always put my cyril Swan keyring in my pocket. I don't know why, but it's habit. 3) I have a signed ball by the 2007/8 team and a shirt signed by Dyer, dobbie, Vorm, ash and britton.
Sorry Dai, but if I am not mistaken, but didnt you accuse him of something like, "being completely without original thought and a copy paste king" or words to that effect?
