Then they are not real fans and not deserving of the Celtic family's support.

Personally I dont agree. There is an assumption that because there is evidence the police were over the top all people arrested must therefore be more than likely to be innocent. Read your post above (they are not your words i accept) Paints a picture of innocence or that this guy is a victim.

Mick was in amsterdam. Before any trouble was caused he pointed out lots of buckfast drinking neds around and the atmosphere was tense. Buckfast drinking neds will more than likely see some of their number arrested...in amstersam, Glasgow, liverpool, vegas.....anywhere.

My gripe is that the police issue is being used as a carte blanche defence for all those who have ended up in the nick.... ive seen the videos. I grew up on armagh. Many a time I was faced with a police man who was looking to kick **** out of us. Many times I was faced with police in riot gear looking for a fight acting much worse than those in Amsterdam. I didnt fight, and didnt get arrested. Its being used to trick people into giving money on the assumption they got to be innocent cuz the police were bad.

There is no way...no way, that guy is in jail without some evidence (even if fake) against him. Why isnt the charges or allegations of what he is supposed to have done been put in that article you posted to allow people to make an informed decision?

CAFOD.... They'll not like that... Not one little bit.

I know it might be pedantic, but a collection for these guys is not a charity per se.

I saw that ...Sounds like a guerrilla group. Same with FAC .. then I realised I was confusing them with FARC.

It's not a charity but it is charity

It was flippant and that doesn't translate very well.

The germ of truth to it is that people react to incidents, so stockpiling cash to deal with future incidents is not likely to be a success. It just isn't how folk work.

My celtic in europe #bringthemhome annual fund was of course tongue in cheek. Meerly pointing out people get arrested all the time. If fans go to barca and there is arrests but no police brutality are they not as important to the celtic family for their drunken tomfoolery?

<laugh> some of the slogans for charities at the moment are getting riduclous - I went to a race for life event earlier in the year and it was all "lets walk all over cancer" and "cancer we're coming to get you". They even had a little warm up dance for the participants - the cancer slam <doh>

I entirely accept how that statement I copied appears to project a position of innocence. But we both have to accept that this was probably penned by someone very close to the accused parties and with little or no experience of making statements. Especially in respect of what is, to them, a highly emotive issue. One must give leeway for that.

I posted it to temper what felt like one way traffic that they must be guilty. The police issue doesn't mean these folk are innocent but it does cast some considerable doubt on the reliability of the police testimony.

Your experiences in Armagh might well have given you the schooling in how to deal with aggressive policing, but you cannot assume the same is true of guys from Glasgow. I wonder would you have kept the same temperate attitude were a crowd of young loyalists laying about you and your mates? I'm going to guess not. It does appear that these lads were involved in a conflict- for whatever reason- with guys dressed in civvies. This is not the same as you and a crowd of Riot cops.

You say there is no way they are in gaol without evidence. I don't know how you can be so sure. Have you seen the evidence or are you just assuming? They have been charged, remanded and are awaiting court. You can call me a **** after we get to hear and see all the evidence and a solid conviction is secured. Until then, it is just conjecture.

Charities attract the absolute worst shower of bastards known to man. It's an oxymoron.... But true.
