I know its a tough job and I wouldnt want to be one, but watching Brøndby vs AGF made my stomach sick. Two very clear penalties for Brøndby denied, an abvious goal for AGF ruled offside and the referee was just abysmal. he decided the course of the game ... nevermind that Brøndbys first goal in their 3-0 Victory was probably offside, this one however is a replay judgement. I am sick and tired of watching referees deciding games, not sure what can be done.
We have had TV coverage of matches now for decades, so plenty of time and opportunity to judge and compare, and quite frankly it has never been this bad. It seems to have got rapidly worse of the last few years.
your first sentence daniel says it all really....your right it is a very hard job to do and not many make the grade or even want the job so im grateful to all the ref's at all levels. They are not super human and mistakes will happen but they have a split second to make that decision and sometimes they are proved wrong after the match. there is not a ref in the world who gets every decision right and there won't be a single team that has not been affected by a wrong decision. Overall they do a good job and without them there would be no football....
Well surely it's time for the video ref or the 4th official with access to replays (where possible). It's not rocket science, as they say. One of the richest sports with the most random chance refereeing, crazy.
Sorry dai but missing an offside or being fooled by an elaborate dive is one thing but being persuaded to give consecutive handballs is not good. There are some many reasons why the penalty should not have been given and he was influenced by a single desperate shout from a goal keeper in our box. I feel terribly sorry for the players, of course there are reasons why we should not have been in these situations in the Europa game and this one but they did not deserve that. So we should be doing our best to support them and the manager and not talk about Brendan. We plucked him from nowhere, he did well for us but now has left. We have not seem the best of Laudrup's team yet.
I'm more tired of our players putting in half baked shifts!! These guys are multi millionaires getting paid in a week what you and I take 12 months to earn, time to see some serious shifts put in for 90 minutes....................
Given all the argy-bargy that goes on after a controversial decision the same time could be spent with a quick video ref. sod goal line technology, one of those occurs once or twice a season, dodgy reffing occurs all the time. And Sepp can stick his grass-roots argument up his ass
Part of that comes down to the players as well these days. There is zero honesty in most footballers and it has made it even tougher for the modern ref.
Band on Temple, look at the way they hurl themselves to the floor for a pen, Young is a bit of a diver, plus look at the penalty Chelsea got this weekend shocking decision. I will even put in Chico as well, because play acting is just another form of cheating and I despise it.
yeah , but if the mistake is so evident like the late penalty given in the Stoke game then it would be becomingly by the referee afterwards to apologize. I find it directly impudent not to do so. Swansea City was robbed two points. Noone except the referee did see this "penalty".
It would be interesting to see a compilation of referees "mistakes" that have affected us as a club. If a video could be put up on the net it would draw attention to the raw deal we have been getting eg. one penalty in about 60 games etc. Look, I'm not talking about minor mistakes because, let's be fair, refereeing is a difficult job and no one on earth is going to get everything right. I'm talking about complete and utter howlers; mistakes so bad you'd swear the officials were either on the take or completely incompetent. I'm also aware that other clubs suffer from time to time but my concern is Swansea City and we seem to have been affected more than most. Some quick examples off the top of my head:- The overall performance of Sunday's referee culminating in a SERIES of wrong decisions that eventually led to that "penalty". Cole's handball for West Ham. Lamah's disallowed effort against West Brom. Not a decision to debate, one that was AGAINST THE RULES of the game as agreed by the pundits on MOTD. Cost us a league position did that little beauty and the best part of a million quid. Anyone remember Pratley being flattened at Notts Forest in a vital Championship game when he was about to toe the ball over the line? I believe in that game Forest went on to score two goals both of which were patently offside. Dean's laughable (not for us) and pathetic penalty award at the end of the Cardiff game a few seasons back. Then there was the S****horpe fracas where we finished with half a team and they were allowed to kick us all over the park with the obvious blessing of a disgraceful referee. Seem to remember Dobbie being out for months after being booted black and blue in that one. These examples are not borderline, they are blatant. And don't give me the argument that we've had our fair share of decisions in our favour because we haven't. Certainly not on the scale of those I've just mentioned. Feel free to disagree by all means, I'll just ignore you. But seriously, can anyone think of more examples along with those I've listed including, for balance, those rare occasions where we've benefited?
Michu getting clattered in the box against Man City, by Zabaletta (?) The most clear penalty you will see in the last few seasons, yet it was never given. There was no excuse for that one. Edit: was Nastasic http://www.soccer-blogger.com/2013/...er-city-2013-highlights-0-0-dzeko-miss-video/ Game ended 0-0, so another game where points were taken from us by poor officiating, so that along with the West Brom disallowed goal effectivly cost us 3 points. (granted games would have been different)
The biggest muppet of a referee was clearly James Linington, and if I could have had the chance I would have gladly smacked him one, I was in the east stand lower tier for this game, and I really don't know how I stopped myself from going on to the pitch, Scunny clearly came to kick us off the pitch and the scum referee did bugger all to protect our players all game, in all my footy days I had never experienced such an imbecile of a ref!.................. They don't need a split second to make a decision at all , thats the trouble and some have of a sense of all seeing all knowing , what is the role of the assistant ref ?,
I gotta be honest there are some poor refs but its about time our clubs put an end 2 cheating and try and help the game move forward......its a circus and we fall for it every year
Ivor, remember in that Scunthorpe game one of our players went off the field for treatment and it meant that we didn't have enough players and the game would have to be abandoned. I think it was Dobbie. The ref forced him to return to the field injured so he could finish the game thus denying him medical treatment. Disgraceful behaviour and blatant cheating just like that twat Sunday
I may be a good guy, so I dont believe referees are evil, they are just bad sometimes. In the end the score will equal itself, I just get tired of them, but they are here to stay.
It was Besian Idrizaj. Dobbie had gone off earlier in the game, and along with the 3 red cards, when Besian went off it meant we were down to just 6 players.
