This puts yesterday into perspective.

    http://www.haringeyindependent.co.uk/sport/10799716._/?

Spurs will still be reeling after yesterday's 1-0 defeat at home to Newcastle but perhaps some comfort can be taken from the fact Magpies goalkeeper Tim Krul had a better day than any stopper in the Premier League's last eight seasons.

Krul kept a clean sheet and made 14 saves over the course of the match at White Hart Lane which saw Tottenham pepper the Newcastle goal for much of the second half.

Krul's magnificent 14 - and his 0 goals conceded - beats previous records held by Paddy Kenny, David James, and Brad Friedel, who all made 12 saves in a game and conceded more than once doing so.

    Premier League since 2006/2007

Tim Krul, Newcastle United v Tottenham, 14 saves, 0 conceded

Paddy Kenny, QPR v Manchester City, 12 saves, 3 conceded

David James, Portsmouth v Chelsea, 12 saves, 2 conceded

Brad Friedel, Aston Villa v Chelsea, 12 saves, 2 conceded

Whilst Krul did stop a record number of shots let's not forget he actually didn't catch any of them thus negating any chance we had of a counter attack by not catching the ball and quickly throwing it out to one of the full backs in one graceful movement. I know that's what I would have done but there again I was probably a better keeper.

Can't help but think that's Pardew's fault. Just bad management.

I'll have you know I kept 14 consecutive clean sheets then had a night on the real ale and sh*t the bed on the 15th night to end a great record.

It was a phenomenal performance, we could've played for another 90 minutes and I doubt we'd have scored, Krul was just too good.

I think he might have been knackered after another 90 minutes of what he'd been doing and you might have managed to get one past him.

With money for a top 4 finish rising from 20 to 40 mill in 2015 from BT lets hope Ashley realises that investing / strengthening the squad is vital if he wants to get a slice of the pie. Or by that time would Rangers seem a better bet ?

He was superb and I'm not taking anything away from it, but...

Apart from the Soldado header and the deflected freekick (the two best saves) he was aided massively by WOEFUL Spurs finishing.

Watching it back last night on MOTD it just emphasised how incredibly poor some of their efforts were – most struck right at Krul when it seemed easier to put the ball past him.

He still has to save these mind and did so brilliantly in terms of pushing the ball away too.

If he had conceded to most of these shots however he would have been at fault and pretty disappointed with himself as they were tame to say the least.

Cash in now while his stock is high <ok>

We always have the Eliott. I'm convinced he wears eye make up. Nothing like having a tranny in nets. Worked for Jim.

I think his performance can be explained in part by his colourful back-story, the details of which I will now divulge.

Sailing to first place in the annual Bahamas Challenge Build a Boat and Race With It Race, 4 year old Tim Krul might have been looked upon as somewhat of prodigy in the Building Boats and Racing Them in Races arena. However, in a cruel twist of fate, he was offered the incorrect scholarship to a pretentious boarding school in Whitley Bay, and was subsequently forced to play football. His coal mining father greatly approved, because he was always politically incorrectly shouting about how Building Boats and Racing Them In Races was a Sport for Nancies and those whose sexual dimorphism when compared with a potato was in serious question... Though he just wanted to build boats and race them in races, he also realised not playing football because his dad wanted to was bloody ungrateful, so he donned some gloves and played through the hurt. Every save was his last rivet in the jigsaw, every pervy look from the P.E. teacher while he showered his triumphant debut flotation.

Years of crippling self-doubt and nonsensical talks with various footballing people lead to a fairly successful career in the game, but one day he broke free. He received a telegram from the son of a Scottish Mafia boss seeking safe refuse for a dodgy game of poker. As chance would have it, Krul had that very summer began secret work on the finest craft of the age, the De Maria Espaghetti Bolognese, which had just enough room for an shady international poker tournament.

It's not just here in the UK that people are raving about his performance. As well as making him the Premier League player of the week, Goal.com have made Tim Krul their International player of the week. This is the first time they have given a goalkeeper this award, choosing him ahead of their other shortlisted players; Cristiano Ronaldo - Real Madrid, Heung-Min Son - Bayer Leverkusen, Hernane - Flamengo, and David Mathebula - SuperSport United.

    http://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/editorial/2013/11/11/4399779/his-display-was-stratospheric-goals-world-player-of-the-week-tim-

In the states, Sports Grid described his performance as the best they had ever seen.

While all of this means nothing on its own, I do hope it helps him get a bit more recognition and also help him toward the Dutch number 1 spot - he deserves it!
