Now just hang on for a cotton picking minute here.... Saints are playing brilliantly. Saints are 3rd in the table. Saints have a shot of going top if we beat Arsenal & Liverpool lose or draw their game All the other results went our way this weekend. Players and Managers getting awards, callups and plaudits a plenty. I HAVE BEEN A SAINTS FAN FOR 40+ YEARS AND LET ME TELL YOU.... THIS ALL MAKES ME VERY NERVOUS.
I'm not nervous. I keep expecting to wake up at any moment, but until I do I'll just keep staring at the league table, whilst running through bits of yesterday's game in my head.
It's got to the point now where I'm disappointed if we lose any game rather than pleasantly surprised when we win. I think I need a complete reboot.
I was watching ManU v Arsenal and thinking we can take both these teams. Every time they lost the ball, I thought Saints wouldn't have lost that. I even yelled at the screen: How hard can it be to pass to someone in the same kit? Watching Saints has made me hypercritical.
Is this what it feels like to support Man U or Chelsea? Looking at the top teams hoping they lose points and not really being interested in the likes of Sunderland or Newcastle unless they are doing us a favour. Truely a new experience and long may it continue.
It reminds me a lot of the early 80's. Except back then one sort of knew that was borrowed time, so enjoyed it in a more limited way because it wasn't going to last. This time round I have no idea whether this is going to last 3 years or 30 years. My logic tells me that Cortese has a long term legacy in view to put the club on a plateau which will keep it on a money spinning, successful, higher profile for the foreseeable future. But then I have Saints fan frailties which mean that logic goes out of the window to be replaced by doubt, cynicism, betrayal, and a host of other unhelpful things. But the logic is strong so I tend to push those anxieties aside. Some days it's so easy to believe, some days it's not. It's a bloody nice feeling to have. Here's an old question that could be asked and answered about now. Do you prefer relegation scraps..? [some people do apparently] It's an easy answer for me. NO. I love this.
Some Pompey forums have been amusing lately. apparently, none of them care we're doing really well, and they're making threads so they can tell each other just how little they care.
If the players continue to believe and we avoid too many injuries we can beat anyone. Arsenal aren't invincible. Really believe we can go and get a result. If we do I can't wait to see wenger whining afterwards!
When if on January 2nd 2014 we are still in the top four then we will be considered title contenders!
If we do beat Arsenal, it'll be 3-1, which would put us in the top two! I think we should also look at West Brom, not just in the way they started last season brilliantly, but the fact that they've beaten Man Utd and drawn with both Arsenal and Chelsea, the latter they should have won. Look at Newcastle; they've beaten Spurs and Chelsea in their last two matches, and they had a similar start to us two seasons ago and came fifth, after consolidation and promotion - could we follow that trend? If we get in their faces, we have a good chance.
I have been watching saints for over 50 years now and living north of London during my youth went to school with arsenal & spurs fans and had years of abuse , during my adult life I've had the same leg pulling and abuse ,this is the first time EVER when I talk to friends and strangers about football when I say I support saints everyone has said ,,oh there a really good side ,good to watch and not looking forward to playing them ,I've had two bets at work with a Liverpool and utd fan , both away games and won money , can't believe I would have bet let alone an away game ,this truly is a special time enjoy it all people it may not last ,,,but little voice in me says I think it just might
Not to worry, I've found my fix on Truebluearmy.com where they literally have 5/6 threads about Saints that have only been created today!
