...in remembrance of generations of seafarers who served on ships of the British Merchant Navy and fishing fleets, who sailed from the Port of Hull in both peace and war never to return.

It was apparently unveiled by Jim Bowen in drag.

Fantastic. It's a good thing that the Merchant Seaman have also been acknowledged (finally) & our government allowed the Russians to awarded them their Medals for helping to ship the stuff on the Arctic Convoys.

They'd have been on their arses if not.

About time, a much maligned profession especially during both World Wars.....MN Seamen were often spat at in the street 'cos people thought they were resisting joining the forces. What a lot of people don't know is that if a ship was sunk the seamans pay was stopped from that point, no matter how long they drifted in lifeboats, or how long it took them to sign on another ship.
Proud of them all they kept this country running and lost a large proportion of men

Love it. Though it won't look so good, when It has Shaz loves Lee, or a knob and bollocks sprayed all over it. Cynical i know...

OLM ...Thanks for sharing. My uncle was on the Russian Convoy and I will take him to see this when I'm in Hull next month.

I think it is quite symbolic in its simplicity.
