For me he's over-rated and I think that's the general consensus among the scousers too. I'm all for getting out of favor established players from the premiership. However, I think it's detrimental to us in the long term to use a premier league kid as a stop gap for us. Either buy players for the position or put our own kids in is my opinion. I'm in disbelief that we seem to be able to have so many defenders but lack pacey attack minded players with at least some form of end product.
I don't know of Jordan Ibe, but Raheem Sterling more than has the potential to cause havoc in the PL nevermind the Championship. The only question would be, how would the inevitable formation change (from 352 to 433) affect the balance of the team? That said, I'd take a punt, as I'm amazed that Victimpool would want to send him out on loan.
Afternoon all Finally finished moving out of my old place today and did the checkout. Hope you're a nicer Estate Agent than the ones I've had the pleasure of dealing with Elland!! It's difficult to say whether Sterling is overrated or not, I don't think it helped him that he had a couple of astounding first games, anything would look worse after that! If BMD is committed to a 3-5-2 I'd rather we looked at getting another RWB as well as Byram. Changing the system to give game time to another teams' youngster doesn't seem like a good idea to me. We should breed our own way of playing through the squad.
I'm all for breeding LID but we dont have anything like young Sterling coming through anytime soon. He has blistering pace and seen good enough to get into the full national squad early in the year. I watched him play in afew first team games and he usually makes a difference. Young, green a lot to learn but a mile better than anything in this league for me. Scousers wont want him playing in the prem so we should have a chance as its not a million miles away for the lad and he gets to play a lot. he should be used as a short cut to where we want to be
Fair point, but why wouldn't Liverpool want him playing in the PL? He wouldn't be able to play against them, but he might just ph&k up some of their rivals.
Boggers as I'm the best fantasy football manager around I'll try and fill you in; For the scousers to loan him into the prem you wouldn't want him to go to your closest rivals as he may win a few extra points for them and overtake you. So you have to decide if he should go to a lower prem side who will benefit from him and at the same time check that that team has to play your closest rivals and hopefully take points from them. There is however always the worry that playing him in a team who get beat a lot will damage him - so why I think Championship is best for him. Teaches him how to play aganst hard men with experience and also thrive beating the shyte out of the slower oldies.
Fair enough, there's no doubt he's more than good enough for the championship so I can see what you're saying. If we played a 4-3-3 then I'd agree, but still a promising RWB would be more valuable for me at the minute
He had a hip injury through the summer and early part of the season and now he has a thigh injury that'll keep him out a couple games, hardly reason to get rid... Players get injured, the timing could just be a coincidence. And also, the reason BMD played him in the cup is probably because it was a meaningless cup game and wanted him to get his match fitness back, it was either gonna be that or a behind closed doors game until he was ready for the league stuff.
I didn't suggest get rid only if he turns out to be a fifteen games a season player. Surely he could have left him out of Newcastle game and continue to build his fitness in following Saturday game that had real meaning
