Now don't get me wrong, I'm really pleased for Lallana and JRod (Rickie too but he's a regular now ;)) But I'm really annoyed Clyne hasn't been called up. Shaw and JWP in the U21s, fine, they will be in the senior squad in a year or so, even if they probably deserve to be in the senior squad already. But Clyne should be in there now. He's better than Johnson and Walker.

Agree 100%. Walker is average and Johnson may be a better crosser, but I have much more faith in Clyne's defending.

I guess Walker has the advantage of the club partnership with Townsend, and Johnson is established as an England player. It doesn't help Clyne that Smalling and Jones can cover there either. I think, sadly, it would take an injury to Walker or Johnson before he got a look in.

Irony..? Seeing as he got it slightly wrong.

Reading a couple of posts above about disappointment that Clyne hasn't made the England squad. Hodgson actually mentioned Nat Clyne, and that he'd kept a close watch on him, so he isn't far away from the squad, but this World Cup is probably one too early for him. Besides, he has real competition for the spot, though I think he's better than any of it.

Those who listened to all of Hodgson's press conference will know that he was very complimentary about Saints, and mentioned JWP and Shaw in the U21s, Chambers in the U19s, as well as Clyne and the other 3 selected players. It's all good for the club and England. Hope other clubs don't start doing the same or we're buggered :)

I can see a time in the next couple of years when England will have five Saints players...the great thing about that is that our players won't be leaving as they can achieve success here.

Jim White said earlier today that Cortese told him at the training camp in Portugal that some of our players were going to surprise people.

And more so than that. We could have 5 youth academy graduates in the England team at the same time in the next year or so. JWP, Shaw, Lallana, Chamberlain and Walcott. Not bad!
