    Vito Mannone - 5

Quiet game overall for the wedge headed Italian. Had a scare with a clearance in the second half which cannoned of Jay Rodriguez who was quick to close the Sunderland shot stopper down. Thankfully for Vito the ball spun wide as apposed to into the back of his net and the hardy souls that made it to the Stadium of Light breathed a collective sigh of relief.

    Ondrej Celustka - 5

Fast becoming somewhat of a marmite player on Wearside. Personally, I think he's steady enough and certainly our best option at right back at this moment. Did little wrong for me and got into a few advanced positions. Hobbled off in the second half which is a concern.

    John O'Shea - 5

John O'Shea was John O'Shea, just without so many of the aimless punts down field as he adapts to the Poyet style of play which was more apparent than ever this evening. No complaints.

    Wes Brown - 5

Oh my giddy aunt, Wes Brown completed a competitive ninety minutes of football in what seems like an eternity or at least since the last ice age. Nice to see him back and looking decent enough.

    Phil Bardsley - 5

Possibly the most interesting thing about the evening's setup from Poyet for me was the position Bardsley employed, high up the left flank in some sort of wingback role which was bordering on left midfield at times. Unfortunately Bardsley never really looked comfortable but stuck at his task well enough even though he looked to cut back onto his right foot at every opportunity. I've thrown in an extra mark for having the nous to follow in Altidore's header and put his side ahead.

    Craig Gardner - 4

Meh. Pretty poor all things considered I thought.

    Jack Colback - 6

A moment of Malbranque-esq brilliance in the first half summed up a very pleasant evening for Jack I thought. Tidy and efficient on the ball, long may it continue.

    Ki Seung-Yong - 6

Along with Colback, Ki was at the heart of everything that Sunderland did well last night, which granted wasn't a great deal. Spread the ball around nicely and stuck to his defensive obligations well too.

    Adam Johnson - 4

Virtually non-existant I thought. His performance was summed up by a cross that he shanked into the North Stand when under little pressure and with a number of red and white shirts to aim for in the area. Needs to do better.

    Emanuele Giaccherini - 4

This simply wasn't the performance I was hoping for from the little Italian having been granted an opportunity after recent omissions. Failed to get involved and dare I say it but he simply doesn't look interested. He probably tuned into Juventus vs Real Madrid along with the rest of us on Tuesday evening and is wondering what the hell he is doing on Wearside. Still, you expect better from a talented professional regardless.

    Jozy Altidore - 6

The birthday boy toiled away with his back to goal all evening. Seemed to raise his game in the second half. Desperately needs a goal however, sooner rather than later. Still showed some nice link up play and grabbed a nice assist for what would prove to be the winning goal.

    Sebastian Larsson - 5

The old finger-wagger himself replaced an injured Celustka after seventy minutes and put himself about. His fresh legs proved to be pivotal in the game as he raced into a great position and fired home Altidore's well weighted pass. Lovely hair too.

    Steven Fletcher - 4

Replaced Giaccherini with minutes left on the clock. Was just glad he didn't get injured to be honest and would rather he didn't make it onto the field such is his importance to this sides' battle to beat the drop.

Man Of The Match: Jack Colback

Was a toss of a coin between Colback and Ki for me but Jack edges it because gingers need some loving too.

jesus, what would your ratings have been if we had lost ??

I'd raise all your ratings by 1. 5 being okish, 6 being decent, 7 good, 8 very good, 9 excellent, 10 perfect

I was happy to see the team try to play some passing footie, though it was a bit slow to watch sometimes. Not sure how that style will work against Man C, but I guess we'll find out.

I was at the game and think the ratings are fair with the exception of manone.

His distribution is much better than Westwoods + he had a solid game

Gardner 4 !, were you at the match ?, he was one of the best players, 7 more like. Colback was all over the pitch and yes man of the match. Leave him in midfield for the time being.
