    Odd selection really, if true.

I don't think Shaw is in top form yet compared to last season. Which again reiterates the point that selection is reputation based rather than form based. Shaw is the next big thing according to the press, off to Man Utd or Chelsea<doh>, and if he is selected it probably has as much to do with that as his actual form.

The press see Lallana as someone who is happy to stay at Southampton and we know where that gets you in terms of England caps!

Wow! Name the last time 3 Saints players got an England call-up to the same squad, they've got enough to form a clique at the training ground! ;)

I would say that the recent selection says the complete opposite

Hopefully Adam and Jay Rod will be on top form on Saturday now.

They couldn't select Shaw as well, selecting 4 Saints players would have caused the entire Football league system to implode overnight in an outpouring of collective disgust.

Being serious though we could have had Clyne and Shaw legitimately called up for these friendlies without raising too many eyebrows, pretty impressive!

Southgate may have wanted to keep Shaw for U21 duty.

OK don't rub it in. I wrote it before I saw the actual selection. I was going on the Daily Mirror report which was somewhat stupid given their history.

Sadly, I've heard he stubbed his toe after the Hull game.

Rodriguez is a bit of a surprise. I wonder in what position Hodgson would play him (apart from on the bench).

Hodgson on Adam Lallana: "Adam was with us once a long time ago. We saw him in training, we have been following him closely and he played a major part in [Southampton's] rise to the top. Quite obvious we would pick him.

"With Jay [Rodriguez], Danny Welbeck has been injured, we hope he will be fit, but we see Jay filling that Welbeck role, a wide forward who likes to go forward and attack people."

I think Rodriguez is a great selection for the Welbeck role, it's clearly the way Roy wants to play and he's currently the best Englishman playing that position.

I completely agree with Shaw staying with the U21's but cannot understand why Clyne isn't being looked at. I guess it's because he only intends on taking 1 right back plus Jones and Smalling to cover but I would say he's the best all round right back in the league and can count himself very unlucky!

Still surprised he doesn't get in ahead of Kyle Walker however.
