07 November 2013 10:40 USA boss Jurgen Klinsmann is due to make a personal check on Sunderland striker Jozy Altidore this weekend. Altidore has been in lethal form for his country during 2013 after setting an American national team record of scoring in five consecutive internationals. But the £6million summer signing is yet to find the net in the Premier League for the Black Cats, with his only Sunderland goal coming in Augustâs Capital One Cup victory over MK Dons. Klinsmann will check on Altidoreâs fortunes when he makes a scouting trip to the Stadium of Light on Sunday for the visit of Manchester City. But despite his lean streak, Sunderland head coach Gus Poyet has no concerns over Altidoreâs form after seeing the 24-year-old have a hand in both goals during last nightâs League Cup victory over Southampton. Poyet said: âJozy played a big part in the first goal, it was a good strong downward header, he was in the right place. âTo be honest, I was expecting Jozy to score in there because it would be great for him to get a goal. âBut it was a great header and the goalkeeper made a great save, but luckily for us Phil (Bardsley) followed the ball and put it in. âThe second goal, which was key to the game, another striker might have thought about himself and had a shot but Jozy thought about the team and set up Seb Larsson, so he deserves credit for that. âNot many people would do that in the same situation. âI know plenty â and I have played with plenty â of strikers who, in that situation, would have a shot. âThey donât care about anything but themselves. âSo I am very pleased for him and we need to be really happy about what he has done for us.â The Sunderland boss added: âOverally, the more he contributes and the more we play, the more chances he will get. âLast night, with the header, was probably the first clear chance he has had since I have been here. âHe will get goals.â
hoping it fires up Jozy to score ,I reckon he's a good player he was instrumental in the two goals against Southampton ,and plays well for the team, he just needs bang in a couple to get to open the floodgates
I agree ........ it must be difficult coming back to the UK where he was deemed to have failed, knowing that the Sunderland supporters prefer Fletcher and were hoping for a big name partner. He's still a young lad and I reckon he can become a very good player as I like his attitude and determination ...... he should take heart from the way people rolled their eyes when we signed a washed up crock called Quinn. His unselfishness, for the 2nd goal last night, was class and so was the way he celebrates other people's goals ....... Bent and Kenwyne often used to sulk if anyone else scored which used to really piss me off.
Well his only premier league goal so far came for us when we beat man city so perhaps thats an omen for you
