Ha! Just asked this on someone else's post, but just imagine you have 5 mins alone with SNQ. What would you ask or say?
I would ask him why does he bother with this club when we have some disillusioned supporters who will not back the manager you have appointed and have faith in?
Mackeman - Bruce has had nothing short of superb support at home games and away. Even when we have had 2 disastrous 2nd half season slumps and went 11 games and 1 win earlier this year. At no point has the crowd turned on the manager where it counts - at the game, so I cant quite understand where you are coming from with this train of thought? I, like may others, have lost my faith in Bruce, with some justification it has to be said, and he needs to rebuild the early euphoria I had on his appointment but at games he, like every player, gets 100% of my support. No-one has turned on Bruce but surely on the forums such as this, we can debate the merits or otherwise of the manager and the chairman. I don't think Quinny wants sycophantic robotic stepford wives for fans he wants passionate and strong minded ones. As for my 5 mins with him I'd love to know what the next 12 months holds for us, as we enter a very nervous 2011/12 season minus a replacement for our best striker in a generation and the policy of flogging young players and replacing them with old players past their sell by dates and injury troubled? Have we learned nothing from this season at all? Also, I'd love to know what the financial situation is for real not the made up club line that all is well. I think, like many clubs in the EPL, the money is running out and I would like to know the facts not the sales pitch. I don't mind the answer even if it were not what I would like to hear.
Cest you give the impression to me that no matter who we got to manage the club they would never be good enough for you or your little posse of naysayers once they had a run of bad results, your arse would drop out and you sing your predictable song. Bruce does not have my unswerving support - however on his results up to the injury crisis and the sale of Bent he does in my opinion he deserves up until Christmas. Can you imagine how the club would be perceived if we got rid of Bruce now - we would be a laughing stock do you not realise that?? What chance would we have of getting a manager of any quality - or would you be happy with Martinez or Holloway, perhaps you would - until they lost a few games eh? I take it your happy pills have kicked the Cest after last night? Bruce has made mistakes, show me a man who has made none and he will not be a football manager nor will he have done anything worthwhile - but lets see if he learns from them. I'm lmao at the thought of this forum being here when we had the likes of Ashurst, Butcher, Buxton and Mackemenemy as manager - now that is when we would have been truly one voice!
Its canny boring and mind boggling reading all these posts about how we are a selling club and its the end of the world because we have sold henderson! im not going to get in the debate as to whether or not i think he was good and what have ya, but the fact remains all this moaning is very premature, who are these ageing has beens / poundstretcher players that we have bought for replacements ?????? i can remember when wigan were selling palacios and valencia and everton were selling rooney all for silly money, and i was saying why cant sunderand find/produce players like this and sell on for a massive profit in order for us to get stronger as a team. I dont see what all the crying is about. the fact is we will sign players who are not world beaters, for the same reasons as every other club do, to create a healthy competitive squad. However we will ( i hope) sign some players who are closer to being world beaters (as we have to be realistic, we are not a massively attractive club). My point is (i think i have one lol) that we should judge the club by what squad is like on the opening day of the season, not a few days into the transfer market.
HEAR HEAR!!!! we have got to get behind SB - unless he totally loses the plot and the dressing room. I think we will have a good 2011/12 - if not it may be time for a change. Lol Bart PS - still like to hear Cest's views, though don't always agree. He is deffo wrong on Bruce IMO.
You are right but then these boards would have to close down for 2 months if we waited till August the 14th mate. Speculation and transfers rumours are what the close season is all about surely? However, if speculation is not your thing, then lets debate some soild syuff instead. We can debate Henderson's sale? It has happened and only the players coming in will dictate how good a deal this has been for us. We can debate the bids for Brown (there's the ageing injury plagued one); Gibson and O Shea (good player IMO) for £12m as that has also happened And we can debate the N'Gog target (there's the pound stretcher one for me) as whether its part of the JH deal or a straight deal, we do seem to be interested. Yes the ultimate debate will happen on August 15th, after the first team takes to the pitch biut everything else in between is also fair game for debate isn't it? Or else we may as well not bother at all?
I would say thanks very much for the heart and soul you put into this club, and I for one very much appreciate your efforts.
Not so mackeman. I would give Bruce the benefit of my grave doubts had I seen enough to warrant it. We are 2 years into his regime and yet we are now on a bigger recruitment drive than we were 2 years ago. More disruption and more uncertainty for the coming season and maybe 5 or 6 new faces int he first team to bed in and get to know each other. Thats not steady improvement its panic city in my books. These new faces may well not hit it off until 7 or 8 games and then its catch up time. Then we have the major problem of these Jan to April slumps. You say lets see if he has learned form his mistakes yet Bruce has been the architect of 2 in 2 years now at SAFC and 3 in 3 years if you count in Wigan before us. What is he not learning that you think is the problem? A poor start and we will all be ****ting bricks come September/November mate and by then its too late to recruit a decent manager and we are back to appointing a Sbragia (surely one of the worst ever panic appointments as a manager at this club ever). The time to change is a close season and give a new manager a kitty to recruit his players. Why would be a laughing stock by the way? Businesses hire and fire managers regularly if they don't perform in any industry. Far form happy pills I'm still extremely worried and the likes of N'Gog, Brown and Gibson are not easing the anxiety at all. O Shea I like and so too Westwood but I see a summer of panic buys and 2nd choice targets which means not a progression but a regression next season. If you choose to think otherwise then fine and for the record, I too sat through the Ashurst, Buxton, Butcher and McMoneybags years but then I happen to think it shouldn't always be that way and I certainly don't want to go back to those anytime soon. Why does criticising Bruce equate to me wanting to see those days return? I want better not worse and Bruce isn't filling me with any confidence that he is control of matter at SAFC at all these days.
is that all Bruces fault though? Keane bought far too many fringe players, that just never lived up to any standards if we are honest about it, Bruce came in and had to try to shift those on, We are 25 million in profit now from when Bruce was appointed (with the henderson sale) so Short hasnt exactly bankrolled him (even stoke have spent 70 million in 3 years), he has had to sell to buy, and he had to sell 3-4 to buy 1 which = a smaller squad but a lot better first team. Now the 1st team got crocked big time, is that ALL Bruces fault, every injury i mean, No, are some his fault, probably, but virtually our entire first team was out for long periods of time last season, only the top 4 could hope to cope with that. We got 5 loan deals last season, is that Bruces fault or Shorts for not spending the cash to buy similar instead of loans? Now because of the loans, and the fact a lot of our players are still injured or just injury prone, he has to get a bigger squad to cope, so that means doing the oposite from what he had to do when he took over, sell a player or 2 at a huge profit (Henderson for 20 million) and try to bring in 3-4 squad players, who have experience and can fill holes or even push for 1st team slots. Whether we will get 1 or 2 marque signings is up to Short, he holds the money, but if we dont, i bet bruce gets all the flack. PS: if i had 5 minutes with Quinn, i would ask if Short is ever to go put his hand in his pocket and buy anyone tbh.
For my 5 mins with NQ : 1 - was the approach for Ji Won Dong (i.e. a Korean player) a suggestion by David Milliband? 2 - give me a blow by blow insider account of the Bent saga from the time he requested a transfer to Turkey in Aug 3 - what was your shortlist in June 2009 when you decided on Steve Bruce? 4 - when the current catering contract is up for renewal, will you swear to get some outfit who can deliver decent grog and scran for us supporters? 5 - in your heart of hearts, will ES do what it takes to enable us to be a consistent top 6 club? Knowing Quinny, he will spend 4 mins 45 seconds answering the first question
And the next six weeks on tour of the pubs and clubs explaining the rest. but for five mins, some insider racing tips.
Yes it is true that Quinn brought in Keane and what did Keane do. He got a club that was falling apart back on track. When he joined it looked as if we would have a season of trying to avoid relegation from the Championship but by the end of the season we had won the league. We have a lot to thank him for.
I would simply say, if you sell Gyan I will be watching all our matches in the pub from now on. I expect 40 thousand other people will be doing the same.
