Samba Diakite has been told he could be given a chance in the QPR first team in the wake of Alejandro Faurlin’s injury.

Popular midfielder Faurlin will miss the rest of the season after suffering cruciate knee ligament damage for the second time in less than two years.

Manager Harry Redknapp, who is also without the injured Niko Kranjcar and Tom Carroll, is looking to bring in a replacement on loan.

In the meantime, Rangers outcast Diakite could be recalled to the squad – he was included in a development-side game this week in order to build up his fitness.

QPR’s Under-21 boss Marc Bircham explained: “Samba was in there largely because of the sad news to Ale Faurlin and the injury he’s now got.

“We need Samba to be ready and match fit for when he’s called upon, and he did well in there and worked hard.”

Diakite, 24, has made only one first-team appearance this season and has not featured in a league game for the R’s since April.

I think he showed a lot of promise when he joined us. Moving forward with the ball from midfield and slotting a killer pass through to the front man. Could be just the thing we need. Come on samba, step up.

Perhaps with a different team of players around him he might do well. Hope his head is sorted. Also hope he avoids a red on his come back!

I saw that promise, too, but he subsequently started to look a bit clumsy. The worst aspect of this was his propensity to run around like a headless chicken and, when he had a run in the team, he always looked like a red card waiting to happen. Mind you, I would have said that about Joey once. I'll trust Harry's judgement on this one but if we've got the talent already, why bother with a loan?

I wondered if he was about to join up with the First Team, after seeing him play for the Under 21's this week. He looked fit, played most of the game and was a good link between defense and attack. God Hitchock is good.

I would welcome it if Diakite was given another go. We still don't know for sure why he has disappeared so completely. But I'm worried about the implication that Krancjar could be out for some time. We know about Carroll and Faurlin of course but Krancjar was only meant to be a minor tweak. Anyone have an update on that?

Scored a good goal against Arsenal as I recall. I also thought he was a rising star for us, lets see if he grabs this opportunity!

I was under the impression that Kranky's injury was very slight. Is it a lot worse than first feared then?

He doesn't inspire confidence, if he tries too hard to impress it's when he's most likely to do something silly...

Would love to see Samba get another chance, which I hope he grasps.

How unlucky are QPR, everyone thought we had enough midfielders to cover any injuries/set backs.
Nobody (even Flyer) anticipated three together.

Was promising yes but also a liability with his reckless challenges so with that & needing to get his head sorted it's pretty big question mark.

Powerful but can't regulate his speed and clatters into people, hence the cards. He looked like he had started to master that then had personal problems. Hasn't looked the same same since. Could be a beast at Championship level though.

Diakite has so much potential if he can keep his mind in the game. Could be up there with the best in the world, imho. Would be good to see him get a second chance to prove himself in the Hoops and take it by the throat, give us and the team some brilliant performances, he certainly is capable to do it.

QPR 1 Wolves 2: Cisse sees red to ruin Bobby's big day as Wanderers roar back

The Frenchman's moment of madness in grabbing Roger Johnson by the neck left referee Mark Clattenburg with little option. Cisse had to go on his home debut.
