http://www.newsatden.co.uk/27831-derry-is-bookmakers-favourite-to-be-new-notts-county-boss.html SHAUN Derry is the surprise favourite for the Notts County manager's job. Derry is 4/1 on with some bookmakers to take charge of the League One outfit, who sacked Chris Kiwomya last week after a run of defeats left them bottom of the table. The veteran midfielder, on loan at The Den from QPR, was born in Nottingham and begun his career at Meadow Lane as a trainee in 1995. Asked about the Derry link by BBC Nottingham on Saturday, Magpies chief executive Jim Rodwell said: "I wouldn't have a bet at the moment - nobody is ruled in or out. "Shaun's name is one that has come into contention but last week Danny Wilson was the red-hot favourite, so it ebbs and flows. I have no idea where these things come from. "But Shaun is a name in the hat. He's had a fantastic playing career, he is well-thought of by Notts County fans but he's inexperienced. "I'm not going confirm whether or not we've spoken to him - or anyone else. We're maybe a little bit closer to making an appointment but nothing is imminent. "If we were to appoint an inexperienced manager, you would need to bring in someone with considerable experience of football at this level alongside him."
Best of luck to him. Great attitude when he played for us and became a fans favourite, quite rightly.
he would be a great player manager for a year with them, and then concentrate on being a full time manager
Good opportunity for him. He could carry on as a bit player whilst learning the manager's trade which persumably means getting his coaching badges. However, the Notts Co. fans don't seem keen!
Shaun Derry favourite for Notts County vacancy Good for him, hope the appointment goes better for him than for Keith Curle - a great servant of our club - I will always remember his gentlemanly conduct when that horrid Ashley Young got him sent off at Man Utd. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image Notts County are close to naming their new manager, with QPR midfielder Shaun Derry the favourite to succeed Chris Kiwomya, reports BBC Radio Nottingham. Derry, 35, who is on loan with QPR's Championship rivals Millwall, could be named player-manager within 48 hours. If ex-Notts player Derry is appointed, ex-Carlisle United boss Greg Abbott is expected to take over as his assistant. The Magpies were linked with several experienced bosses in Brian Kerr, Dean Saunders, Danny Wilson and Gary Rowett. But chief executive Jim Rodwell confirmed before Saturday's 3-0 defeat against Coventry City that they were also talking to an inexperienced candidate, with the idea of bringing in a more senior figure to work alongside him. Kiwomya left Meadow Lane by mutual consent last month, with Notts bottom of League One after winning only two of their first 13 games. Derry began his career at Meadow Lane, making 93 appearances between 1995 and 1998. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24819629
Wish SD all the best. The epitome of hard-working professional. Wish could see more of it, would make football a better game.
That job is a bit of a poisoned chalice but he has all the makings of a very good manager. Was a shame to see Kiwomya fail there.
would also suit us as we get his wages off the books. Hope he does well there although I dont like the club for employing Lee Hughes.
As hunted down by Macmoish on QPR Report Notts County finalising double deal for Shaun Derry and Greg Abbott NOTTS County have got their men. The Magpies were last night finalising deals to make Shaun Derry and Greg Abbott their new management duo, the Post understands. And the pair could be confirmed in their posts at Meadow Lane today, in time to take charge of Notts for the first time when they face League Two Hartlepool United in the FA Cup on Saturday. Notts made their move for Derry, after sacking Chris Kiwomya, and former Carlisle United boss Greg Abbott will be his No.2. The Magpies will hope they can drag the club off the bottom of League One and keep them in the division this season. Derry and Abbott have known each other for years, having been at Leeds United together. Nottingham-born Derry, 35, who began his career with the Magpies in 1996 and was briefly on loan at Nottingham Forest, moved to Leeds in 2005 while Abbott was a coach at Elland Road. Abbott, 49, was a coach at Leeds for around ten years, from when he retired as a player in 1996 to when he moved to Carlisle in 2006. It will be Derry's first job in management and it's possible he will be a player-manager at Meadow Lane, having played for Championship clubs Queens Park Rangers and Millwall so far this season. While he is a rookie, Abbott has lots of experience in League One, having been in the hot seat at Carlisle for five seasons and leading them to a Wembley triumph in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in 2011, and the Notts will hope it proves the perfect partnership. http://www.nottinghampost.com/story-20038769-detail/story.html
Confirmed on offish - good luck to him - a great servant to the club. I doubted his signing when he came, but he proved me wrong. He was superb for us and deserves this opportunity. Best of luck.
