GOALKEEPER Robert Green believes teammate Matty Phillips is just starting to show his true potential at QPR. Phillipsâ Man of the Match display in Saturdayâs 2-1 win against Derby County was arguably the wingers best yet in a Rangers shirt. And stopper Green insists there is a lot more to come from the former Blackpool midfielder after a difficult start to his QPR career. âIt is hard to come into a new club injured and not having had a pre-season,â Green told www.qpr.co.uk. âHe is finding his feet and hopefully this is the start of showing what he can do. âHe came on in his first game and he hadnât played any minutes of football and he gets thrown in. âSince then he has had time in and out so he hasnât had a settling in period.â Phillips set-up Jermaine Jenas for QPRâs opener against the Rams before going close to opening his Râs account midway through the second half when he struck the County crossbar. It was that sort of attacking flair that Green felt had been lacking in recent weeks. âWeâve had a couple of games where we had some disappointing performances so against Derby it was good to play some nice stuff at times,â he said. âThey are resurgent under Steve McClaren. You play teams at right and wrong times and they have obviously had an upturn in form so to win the game was encouraging. âWe lost two points in the last minute at Milwall and then at Wigan we controlled the game without converting our chances. âIt is tough in this league, teams are going to come at you, so it was important that by hook or by crook we got the three points and we did the job.â That delight was tainted somewhat though with disappointment for teammate Ale Faurlin who suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury. âHe is distraught,â said the 33-year-old custodian. âI want to wish him well. To have had an injury like that and then get it again is hard to take.â QPR head to Berkshire on Saturday for their live Sky Sports fixture against Reading knowing the Royals will be a wounded animal. Nigel Adkins side were on the receiving end of a 5-2 thrashing against Sheffield Wednesday last weekend and Green is aware their manager will be demanding a response in front of the cameras. The former West Ham keeper admitted: âThey will be looking to react. They are always strong at home. Itâs another tough game but this league is full of them. âWe will be looking to build on this display against Derby. Weâve taken a step in the right direction and hopefully we can make another step. It has helped to re-instill what we already knew about this group.â Read more at http://www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/0...me-from-matt-1156748.aspx#t0CVhSkC8iD2OVCz.99
He looks a very good player IMO and could be better than Townsend as he has a very good tracking game and is tough as they come We have with him and Junior two brilliant wide players It's shaping up big time
I did like the look of him in the last outing. As has been said, he's strong. He has a great jump on him but doesn't always get his head to the ball so he should work on that. But he has some serious pace and when he grows in confidence he can really do well, I'm sure. It's all up to him, really. He needs to focus and concentrate because we've seen a lack of that until last Saturday. His concentration dipped leading into the half time break but otherwise he seemed on the ball!
Very good player. Started off tentative but I fully expect him to come in to his own in the coming weeks.
He's 3 months into a 48 month contract, the w****** who are giving him abuse have no sense of perspective. He will be a star for us, great ability and potential.
