Petition by National Civilian WW2 Memorial Trust (NCWW2MT) NATIONAL PICTURE THEATRE please log in to view this image The National Picture Theatre in Kingston upon Hull is a Grade ll Listed Building. It was given listed status because it is a very rare survival of a WW2 blitzed ruin, being the only civilian example in the whole country. The National Civilian WW2 Memorial Trust would like to purchase the National Picture Theatre site and develop it into a WW2 'Home Front Tribute' . The Trust have already been granted planning permission and Listed Building Consent. However, the current owner has submitted a planning application to develop the rear two-thirds of the site to produce a large car park, and an outdoor eating and drinking area for the Swan Inn, which he wants to convert into a restaurant. He also wants to build a 2-metre high fence directly behind the bombed ruins. This development would ruin the special historic character and poignancy of the site, and with only one-third of the site remaining, it would make it financially unviable as an educational facility and visitor attraction. Just a quick update - The target of 1,000 signatures was passed and the petition was handed to the council today. Thanks to all who voted.
Glad to oblige, as we have seen in all the wonderful pictures posted lately on these threads ( and another today of Albion St) how regal Hull actually was back in those days some magnificent buildings lost forever thanks to Adolf.
