Not seen this one before, it looks like it was a fantastic street... please log in to view this image
The building at the end of the street was the old Hull Royal Infirmary. The building to the left of the pillared building is still there, known as the Institute - Queen Victoria's own personal physician lived/worked there. I think he is also the reason a piece of King Charles I (who was turned away from Hull)'s vertebrae is on show at Fort Paull (Queen Victoria gave him it after finding out what it was).
There was The Institute and The Royal Institute both on Albion St. The Institute has been a pub, became a boutique hotel and I think it is now student accommodation.
Is that from a book? If so what is the title. I have a book about High Street from around the same time written in a similar format.
The museum, if my mum told me right, was where the car park is along Bond Street and Albion Street. My dad used to say it was a terrific collection until bombed.
Aye, there was an archaeological dig of the remains back in '89, after some workmen happened upon them. I remember it well. They recovered a lot of artifacts from the basement. The Phoenix project it were. Hard to find much info online but there's a little about it on the councils website... http://www.hullcc.gov.uk/museumcollections/collections/storydetail.php?irn=439
The tall building at the end of the street was The Hull Royal Infirmary, the small building was a gate house.
