Thing is..... The birth rate is going up quickly, but the number of babies and children under 5 is barely moving. Does this mean there are a load of people being born at age 27?

I suspect it means that many are dying of illnesses that are probably preventable.

 

Well..... no, that can't be the case. Because even if a quarter are dying between 0 and 5 (and that's clearly nowhere near the case) with the birth rate clicking along at over five a second, the number of 0-5 aged people should be going up by more than one every ten seconds or so, even also allowing for people reaching the age of six.
