On-loan defender loving life under Redknapp at Loftus Road …

R’S LOANEE Benoit Assou-Ekotto has admitted he’s loving life at Loftus Road and has paid tribute to the QPR fans for welcoming him with open arms to W12.

Speaking after Saturday’s home win against Derby County, the Spurs defender – currently on a season long loan with the R’s – expressed his delight at how he’s settled into life with the Hoops.

"I'm enjoying being here,” he told www.qpr.co.uk.

"I love working with Harry. He was the main reason I came here.

“The supporters have been great to me as well.

"It's really important for us to feel the love and support of our fans.

"They are our twelfth man, so it's important that we give them something to shout about.”

Victory over the Rams cemented the R’s position amongst the front-runners in the Sky Bet Championship and Assou-Ekotto believes the experience within the Rangers squad will pay dividends over the course of the campaign.

"These are the kind of games we need to win if we are to achieve our goals of promotion,” he said.

"Our home form will be very important.

"We have a team with experience, with a lot of Premier League experience, and that will be a big help to us.

"We should be going into every game thinking we can win, because this squad has the ability to succeed.”

Despite Saturday’s 2-1 win, the thoughts of everyone at QPR were with stricken midfielder Alejandro Faurlin in the immediate aftermath, with the midfielder sustaining a serious knee injury which is likely to keep him sidelined for 6-9 months.

Assou-Ekotto added: "We're all very sorry for Ali.

"The whole changing room in behind him and we all want to succeed for him now this season.

"He is a team-mate and we all wish him a quick and successful recovery.”

Theres a lot of "we" there which is a good sign. Often loan players or even the manager uses "them" or "they" which is not the thing you want to hear.

Yes, good player BAE. Effortless control of the ball is a joy to watch.

Super player and if we make it up ... I hope we can sign him. I love his mix of a laid back player that makes things look like they should easy IMO but if he needs to snap this cat is one mean and strong player. FB ... Its a position that required total concentration, speed and a brilliant engine ... Spurs fans i know claim he does switch off and England football still demands that he acts like a idiot Stuart Pearce on acid but IMO that is not the way of today's football ... you have to be calm and this doesn't mean if a player looks lazy then he don't give a ****. We as a club did the same to Bosingwa and differences were formed between the fans and the player to stupid levels. BAE has gone around this is a great way by talking in interview about the fans the 12th man being vital ... he gets big respect from me for this and shows up Bosingwa's failings there.

At QPR you know i believe our 12th man at LR has at times a head full of rust

This is the first proper interview he's given whilst at the club, about time! Nice positive interview though. Maybe Ale's injury will end up being a rallying point for the squad, and they're work additionally hard for their fallen comrade.

    Good, positive words from BAE.
Is there any chance that Spurs could recall him? They are using Vertongen as an emergency left back, with their first two choices injured.

They can't recall him. He's signed to us for the season. In the same way that Remy and someone else did for other clubs.

Pretty sure AVB and BAE have burnt their bridges for good, even if it was possible it wouldn't happen. Vertonghen plays left back for Belgium so wouldn't call him an "emergency", he's just as good as, if not better than Rose/Benny and streets ahead of Naughton.

Glad you guys are enjoying Benny, he's a popular figure at WHL who will always be welcomed back by the fans. Having said that I expect he'll be yours for £4/5m in the summer if you get promoted, he certainly deserves to be playing Premiership football in the long term. This was a good move for him under the circumstances - familiar faces and close to home.

Despite his unfair treatment by Spurs it's clear he still has a lot of love for the club, coming to loads of our home games. Shows the type of loyal and down to earth character he is, a far cry from many modern footballers.
