Nor did they show the more definite Shawcross penalty appeal. Charlie Nicholas thought it was nailed on. That's 2 points gone west because of a ref's eyesight. And ace taker Lambert was on the pitch so it was 2-1 all day.
Odd that they showed the other appeal and not the late one. The earlier one was of the nature that I really hate seeing called; ball-to-hand all day, hand not really in an unnatural position. Shawcross however...
Missed the game yesterday (went to the F1 Qualifying in Abu Dhabi) - thought it might be a draw - gutted to see that we conceded a goal in the first minute and then read this morning who and how it was scored - ugh! A point is good; like so many of you to have won (I saw at the circuit that Newcastle beat Chelseas before our kick-off and got all hopeful (alcohol induced admittedly)) would have been amazing: 2nd place - wow! Still; we are doing fantastic COYR!!
Can't really blame Boruc for a flukey goal like that...he'd have been in a spot of bother if he had been on his line and why would he be on his line when we were attacking their GK. He's easily worth a stack of points to us so mustn't be harsh on him. However, goals change games and I suspect the wind was let out of our sails (if you pardon the pun) and Stoke's game plan changed. We had the rest of the game to put it right, but only managed one (great ball from JWP, but I still don't know how it went in). We must start scoring more goals. Still, an away point from a losing position, only one loss in 10, so we can move on to Wednesday's game with some confidence and then make sure we beat Hull at SMS. P.s. Never thought Hull would do so well, so no push overs.
A special mention for "The Kenyan Warrior" yesterday...he was immense. Fought and battled for every ball and won. Thought him marking Crouch (who really is an awful footballer) was a great bit of management giving Lovren the job of mopping up behind him. Stoke have not change at all since the Pullis days and that was a real battle against a team of low talent thugs. Stoke vs West Hoof would be a real delight!!! Well done Victor!
Just watched the Sky extended highlights and thought our fans were awesome. Stoke are supposed to be amongst the loudest at home and Saints outsang them all match! Great job!
Fellas A bizarre goal, they say the first rule of defending is to not let the ball bounce.....in which case I think your two central defenders should have dealt with it. As for Boruc, his response was first-class, I particularly liked his message after the game that he would win back the two points on his own, great stuff and what a bloke! Best of luck with the rest of the season <from a toon fan>
Thought we controlled the game again yesterday, and we really look a proper good team now. Big Vic and Schneiders were excellent, as was Clyne I thought. Nothing Artur could do about that goal, the wind was ridiculous at the Britannia. I was in row 5, and was nearly blown over the seat in front. Very tough conditions to defend against, and we did ever so well to continue playing our football. The goal was a superb bit of play. Fair play to Artur though. Despite the fact most of us felt he couldn't do anything about the goal, he responded well, kept his head and made a decent save second half. He apologised to the fans at half time and full time, but this guy has won us so many points already. Plus, he came out and faced the media and didn't hide away. Top guy and top keeper.
I think that this was every bit as good as the draw at OT but for different reasons. Going a goal down so early in the match is never easy and add to that the adverse weather conditions, not conducive for pretty football, it was a day to battle for the points. That is the great thing about this current team, you never feel that they are out of the game and that they will find a way of getting a result. We now have a home game before the international break and if we can win that then we will be sitting pretty before the big tests at Arsenal and Chelsea, but I have never felt as hopeful as I do now that we can get ponts from those games.
I think if we'd been playing at St Mary's we would have won. Unfortunately due to the stadium and the conditions, we couldn't play how we like to. In the first 10-15 minutes we struggled as we attempted to adapt to the wind. Once we did, I felt we controlled the game well, just couldn't get that second goal.
Its another game unbeaten and fluke apart sound defence continues. Hull will be a challenge but very very winnable.
Nat Clyne just shaded it for me (has he ever played badly?)...but yeah, big Vic was a beast yesterday.
