Saw an interview with Dummet's parents and I think they will keep the lad grounded.
Ranger when at SJP was just a waste of space.

Looks our best option at left back. No centre back but needs must and all that. Derby got to him but bit of a baptism for a local lad out of position.

It was a foul by Fletcher.

This, I know Pardew said he had concern about playing him with the fact it was a Derby match and him being a local lad.

To be honest haidara is far better, quicker, technically better, better defensively. Dummett looks rank average to me. Because he's a local lad always adds something in the eyes of supporters though it seems.

Based on him not putting a foot wrong so far bar when trying to play centre back?

I don't think fans just want local lads regardless of quality, that would just be silly. They want him because he has looked very very good when playing.

I love the irony given your username <laugh>

I do agree that Taylor is poor though and if it wasn't for his Geordie roots he'd get a much harder time off the fans.

He is a decent centre half. Not a world beater but he has had some good spells. I think as a 3rd or 4th choice in the PL for a mid table team, he's ok. Not as good as some believe but not horrific.

Not sure that can apply that to Dummett yet?

Sorry he has looked okay to me, nothing more. I think there was a noticable drop in quality Wednesday night when Haidara was subbed off at half time for Dummett, got nothing against the lad and think he will be alright, but he's hardly the second coming.

Both had good games and bad. Both better left backs than Santon. Certainly too early to get carried away, but also way too early to write him off. The answer is pretty simple for me. Let them fight it out. Both young and can only get better. We have to remember Haidara also looked dodgy at times last year.

Left backs are like rocking horse ****. We have two young ones that look decent. With a bit of decent coaching we could be well sorted in that area.

Certainly Santon is not and never has been a left back. He has filled in there at Inter but it is now time to end this charade as it has been hurting us for well over a year. Either return him to right back which he has spent the majority of his career at, push him upfield or flog him. I'd like to see him upfield personally, you can see why his formative football was spent as a winger.

I agree regarding Santon, I don't think he has found his best position yet. I like him and I think in a better team he will look better than he does currently. He had a fantastic first half to last season, but has been inconsistent ever since andis always prone to make a mistake that costs us.
